Yea im not really sure why Fuji was a issue for many folks and they did use Zeiss on there classic cams as i shot them for years with film. For some reason it was a big deal and by there video this morning about not being Fuji was a bit surprising and they made a big deal out of it. Honestly though with the global market and global production and along with the processes this stuff should really not matter. I worry more about the type of glass used than the process of putting a lens together. Zeiss , Leica and others use certain glass formulas to produce the glass and I believe that process of making the glass is where the magic really is at.

Speaking of the shutter. If X1D supports video, the electronic shutter for still image shouldn't be a problem. If it only supports leaf-shutter lens, I think I will pass. 1/2000 is simply not enough for me.

It's very suspicious that DxO never published the full test of the Pentax 645Z. In any case, in the DxO test of the Sony RX1RII, Fred posted these comparison screen grabs from DxO. The last chart shows the Pentax 645Z result which uses this same sensor. It's the highest rated sensor tested thus far by DxO.

The X1D looks amazing
We should not be comparing X1D with the A7x series as the technical design of what is achievable will be very different at least for this iteration. With respect to medium format, the design is superb. Comparatively light body and I love the simple user interface. Japanese ergonomic design teams should take a notes from Leica and Hasseblad here.

This is a camera that would sit along side a FF 35mm and not replace it. Medium formats are quirky in that a lot more skills in technique are required to get great shots from them. A lot may aspire to this camera and may be disappointed after getting easy results from the A7rII with IBIS.

Personally if the specs line up, I will eventually get one as I love the format size for portraits. It would appear the rendering/tonality will be inline for that of MF. Also smart move not to exceed the 50MP as it allows for larger pixels in comparison.

The design of the X1D is that of simplicity with 1 or 2 lenses. I love this as this is what excited me immensely when the Leica M9 was first announced, small, light FF digital with great lenses ground breaking at the time.

I tested this sensor on a Leaf Credo 50 mpx back. Its outstanding. This same sensor is in Phase, Hassy and leaf plus Pentax. There all using this exact sensor. As far as DXO is concerned in my mind i do not even care. Its as good as or better than our 42mpx sensor now. But it can shoot for two minutes and ISO 3200 looks outstanding. Thats good enough for me

Here's a video from The Verge. I never understand why these people get access to cameras like this so early. I always feel like they don't really know what they are talking about and just memorize comments they find on the internet about them.

I think the reason Hassy gets flak over the whole Fuji thing is the common belief that the H system was originally a Fuji system that Hassy simply came along and bought the rights to it for worldwide (ex Japan) sale. Also, the fact that Fuji built the lenses too. It really makes people think how a small company like Hassy with not much experience in optics or electronics could actually have much input in the design of the H system other than to hand over requested specs to Fuji. It's prejudice born out of some of the stupid things Hassy has done, such as making H bodies proprietary or Lunar line.

I don't really care whether Hassy actually developed it or not, as long as it's good. I'm a big fan of theirs, and this camera is definitely a consideration in my book. If the A9 comes out and it's $5-6k, then this Hassy will be in the conversation. I think this camera looks great. A great competitor to the Leica S and Pentax 645, without the downside and flaws of those two (weight, price).

The only downside of this camera is that we have the A7R II sensor so we know that Sony can build an even better sensor (BSI and copper interconnect) so eventually it will migrate into this medium format sensor line. $9k makes it hard to have GAS and then upgrade when the new release comes out. If I hear the next generation of this sensor is on the horizon, I'd wait.

They don't look vastly different from the H lenses to me, just smaller. What gives you the impression they're of lower quality?

What's so special in the way it looks that you call this camera a masterpiece?

I'm working on trying to get a demo unit from my dealer. Let's see if I can pull the rabbit out of the hat. Hassy was not fond of me since I owned many Phase backs so in the past they ignored my requests. I'll go through my dealer. I would love to to test this one out

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, so some will not agree. But I see elegant lines all over, a truly compact body for the sensor size, very functional design with everything that's needed and nothing extra, and a refined balance of machine-ness and human-ness. It's all about making the picture, not about the buttons and dials. It doesn't take minimalism to the extreme (like the weird handgrip on the Leica SL).

Now guessing from the photos, I gather it gives the feel of quality and sturdiness unlike, say, the typical Sony or Fuji, and it should for the $9K price.

As an aside, I recently watched someone's video about the Contax 645 film camera. While a much-loved camera with a great lenses, the video highlighted all of the design quirks of the body exterior. It was a rundown of everything that could go wrong — and ruin your pictures — because it was too loose, in the way, or in too easy to inadvertently flip out of place. The guy had to put tape over a bunch of things to keep from screwing up important photos.

The new XCD lenses cost much less than similar HC and HCD lenses.
For example, the HC 50/3.5 II costs twice as much as the new XCD 45/3.5. One possible reason for the price difference is that HC and HCD lenses are truly mechanical lenses. The new XCD lenses have a simpler design without any focusing markings on the barrel (focus by wire) and cover a smaller image circle. Hasselblad also wants to be price conscious to semi-pros and enthusiasts hoping they will upgrade from their full frame cameras.

Here is a list of all Hassy H lenses. (The two new XCD are at the bottom of page)
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/buy/Lenses/ci/5518/N/4232860421

Regarding AF, it seems to be contrast detect only. (similar to what we saw when the A7R was introduced)

I wish they had presented a better image gallery to showcase this camera...

I'm sure it's a great camera but I'm not sure how one can comment on functionality of the design and how comfortable the grip is without even holding the camera in his hands and using it for some time. Let's also see how this sleek design affects the weather sealing and sturdiness of the body itself.

I'd love to be wrong but I highly doubt it, it's very hard to implement in a larger sensor, we've only recently seen the first 35mm sensor with electronic shutter, I think the MF fully electronic shutter will be a few iterations away.

The difficulty with a larger sensor is more about read-out speed than complexity, ie whether the read-out speed is so slow that it becomes impractical to call it a functional electronic shutter. Since the sensor supports video capture it by definition has an electronic shutter - how slow it operates in practice and whether it implements line/row skipping to achieve usable video without horrendous rolling shutter artifacts is another question. In practice they could implement a full-readout stills-photography electronic shutter but with the proviso that it's only useful for certain shooting scenarios like still-life, where 1/2s readouts (or however slow it is) would be acceptable.
