I doubt we see any new 50 MP Medium format releases this year as I think even Sony executives have unofficially admitted they are currently not looking into getting into the MF game. I'm sure though Sony will up the game this year with new A7/A9 series. Possibly close to 70 MP or more. With BSI sensor tech it's fully possible.

+1

I think whether it is an A9 and A7rIII or both, Sony will make at least one camera that will be more than 50MPs. I think 70 is a pretty speculative number. I actually think improving on sensor PDAF (and hopefully including a real ISO 50) will be more important than the exact number of pixels. If they improve those two areas and it is a 56MP sensor, then they will have done well. The miniMF sensor in the Hassy, Fuji, and Pentax will still have some advantages over such a sensor (and probably any FF 35mm sensor that will come out in the next couple of years), but that Sony sensor would likely be an excellent one.

Yes, for some reason I read that quote as another company releasing a 50MP crop MF camera which is why I was surprised. I quite agree that it's likely Sony will break the 50MP mark this year. Maybe Nikon too if they continue using a Sony sensor for their high MP model. 54MP would be the A6300/6500 sized pixel in FF

Does anyone have any experience with the Hasselblad XCD 30mm f/3.5 lens? Or any reviews out there? I am still tempted to change system to the Hasselblad, but much depends on how this wide angle lens will perform. Considering the price I would expect it to be Otus quality...

I don't think the lens is actually available yet. I do have the HCD 24 f/4.8 that I will test out when I get the camera and the H lens adapter, which hopefully will be soon, but who knows. The 24mm is not overly large and I think it will be an excellent lens. I like both the MTFs and the samples I have seen. It has pretty high distortion (so probably not a great lens for architecture) but I have high hopes for it as a landscape lens. I got a very good deal on mine used, but it is still an Otus priced lens. Digital medium format is not cheap.

On this thread there is a picture with someone already owning the lens. So I think it is already shipping (slowly). Waiting for some samples to poor in.

I went to buy a new tripod today and ended up coming home with this.

https://s29.postimg.org/5465crctz/hasselblad.jpg

No, now seriously

I did go buy a new tripod and at the store there was this final production camera (Stockholm, Sweden).

The thing is, they still can't sell it. Didn't I read here that it was already shipping and some people already had it?

Well, I very much doubt that after using this one. I took a couple of shots in the store and the firmware simply isn't ready. It takes at least 5 seconds for the EVF to turn on when you put the camera up to your face. 5 seconds when it actually works. Most of the times it just did not turn on and the camera froze and had to be turned off and on again.

But that's not the point of my post. The point is, the camera just looks and feels incredible! I seriously want one and I hope one day I can buy one. It is bigger than my A7RII, it is heavier, but still, it just feels incredible in the hand and that grip is something else. The camera feels like an extension of your own arm/hand.

The guy at the shop thinks the firmware should be good enough for launch in the Spring (and that Hasselblad can't really afford to delayed it any longer).

Anyway, fantastic camera in terms of feel and built. Can't talk about the image quality but they shot it at the shop and really loved the files coming out of it.

Lets hope the price comes down soon, now that the Chinese took over

Here's an X1D gallery, I don't know if it's been posted before, but it does have some nice shoots.

This is the one I'd want:

God. They haven't solved this problem? I heard it long time ago from an early tester.

Overall, the camera feels great, awesome design. The battery is still charging. But...

1. I'm surprised the lenses have no hood. Don't they flare?
2. The strap could be better. It took a couple of minutes to put it on, but there's no way I can take it off on the ground. Sometimes you want to be strapless.

I should have known that from your samples on the previous page. I gave up waiting for mine and cancelled my order and went with the Fuji. Still don't know if I made the right decision. It certainly is a lovely camera. I may change my mind and reverse the decision in the next generation of cameras. We will see as both cameras evolve.

I took the camera for a spin, at night, with a tripod, shooting at base iso with 90mm. First impressions:

cons:
* strap is too small for me and weird. I'm 6'3. I like the stretchable strap that you can place around your neck and shoulder on 1 side. This one is too short and too stiff. Anyway, this problem is easily fixed by replacing the strap
* not used to the menus. Is there a live view on this camera? Couldn't find it. There must be.
* both 90mm and 45mm are not at OTUS 55 or Coastal Optics 60 level. If you shoot say a text you can see how the out of focus text is a slightly different color than black. This is very very small effect tho. OTUS and CO 60 are APO. The Hassy is not.
* the firmware is bare-boned compared to the canon. very few options -- just what you need. but so far there are some obvious misses. for example, I don't know if it can do multiple exposures for HDR.
* firmware crashed once (out of say 10 turn ons). I had to turn off/on the camera.

pros:
* while not at OTUS/CO 60 level, the lenses are very good, and much cheaper too.
* the sensor rocks. basically I get better results than with my Canon, inspite of the Canon having a slightly better lens. (only otus/co 60; the rest of the canon lenses at worse than the Hassy)
* the manual focus is amazing... I can't say how much I like it. this is one of the best features of this camera. basically it automatically zooms in and you can nail the focus easily. this was crucial at night
* while processing the photos, I was amazed how it didn't have blown out highlights or shadows. big dynamic range difference vs the canon. simply amazing
* camera is lighter than a DSLR. it's easier to walk around with this. also, much more fashionable. big selling point in usability.
* did I say I was impressed with the quality of the photos?

Overall I'm impressed. I'll be selling some of my 35mm lenses, like say the 21mm distagon and things like that. The x1d does those kind of photos much better.

Lloyd Chambers seems pretty bullish so far, though he mentions that the live view turns to red mush at dusk just like the A7 series so as for hopes that the larger lightwells would finally make EVFs actually useful...guess I'm still a few years away from being able to migrate away from OVFs. I don't understand why there's literally nothing they can do about this. Give us a X1Ds with only 16 megapixels if that's what it takes to get enough light for the EVF to be useful, do whatever it takes. Figure it out. Three years ago.

Is there any way someone, who owns the 30mm, could upload couple of RAW files with wide open and perhaps at f/8-f/11. I am really curious how this lens will perform and how sharp the corners are...

Thanks!
