Could everyone post the serial numbers (xx off the last couple of digits if you don't feel comfortable for any reason posting the whole number) of their v3 lenses ? Stating whether the lens was good or had soft corners ?
That way maybe we can get an idea of where the 2nd batch serial numbers started and positive hit rate !
I've got a lens lined up with the serial number 086334xx but I'm not sure if this is from the first or second batch. There's no way I can return it for 'soft corners' here !

Based on info I collected this spring.
0861XXXX were prototypes.
0862XXXX and 0892XXXX were the first production runs. Some good ones.
My first 4 had bad smearing in the corners.
0864XXXX is what my lens delivered today is. Checked with both C1 and LR with LR lens profile only.
So I think I have a keeper. A little soft in the corners but no smearing. Sweat spot seems to be wide between f5.6-f8.
C1 does not seem to have the lens profile. LR does, and the images are much better with LR.
Anyone have a recommendation for post corrections and best practices with software with the CV lenses?

More comparison.
My new CV 15 is sharper across the frame then the Canon 16-36L II @16mm, no surprise.
Not quite as sharp corner to corner as the Canon 11-24L @15mm.
Both the CV 15 and Canon 16-35L II are sharper in the center then the 11-24L.

LR has the E mount's profile? I didn't notice that.

After looking hard at the corners of the pictures that I took yesterday, I have decided that my new CV 15/4.5 is a keeper. Indeed, as I have posted elsewhere (In a thread titled 'Size Matters'), I love the feel of the lens on my A7RII which reminds me of shooting with my old Nikon F.
For those tracking the serial numbers, my lens (from Amazon/Camera Quest) is 0864xxxx.

Yeah, I am about ready to jump on board. I rented this lens for a trip to Bali a little over a month ago and loved shooting with it, but I wasn't about to play the lottery (though, it had been pulled in late July and early August so renting or buying used was it).

Got back from the East Coast this morning and the 15/4.5 FE mount was waiting for me.
Serial number 08641XXX. Quick comparison just using the EVF of my A7RII seems to show the corners are comparable to my apparently good version of the VM mount.
Hopefully will get it out tonight just before sunset to a direct comparison.
It is 20 grams or so lighter than my adapted VM version.
Also, I noticed that when I hit the infinity stop it seems like it was not improving sharpness anymore, but it would be nice to be able to go SLIGHTLY beyond best focus just to make sure you actually can achieve best focus under all temperature conditions.
AND no one told me the FE version has the opposite rotation for the aperture setting from the VM version! Not that it matters . . .

So, I am waffling on the Emount version versus the VM version. To be clear, the VM didn't ever have the widespread problems, correct? I have the TechArt adapter coming so that made me think about the VM version instead (and it saves eme $100). I rented the Emount version and loved the size. My hesitation is that I don't really need AF at that focal length shooting f/8 or so nearly all of the time. Hmmm.

I noticed this about mine also. My adapted CV 35 goes slightly beyond infinity so I can always make sure I find the most precise infinity. I sometimes feel that the infinity hardstop on the new 15mm might be just short.....
Has anyone else noticed this? IS there anyway to adjuster the infinity hardstop?

Argh . . . a quick test against my VM version shows the E-mount version is not as sharp - across the frame AND in the corners. Could be due to not being able to get to true infinity focus since the sharpest I could get it was right at the stop. Come on Cosina . . . this one is going back.

I wonder what you guys think of this one?
Tested at f/4.5 at Infinity focus (as far as it will turn) and another at closer focus. 100% crops, each corner represents about 12% of the frame (a 1000x1000 crop) from A7R II jpegs.
The corners don't look even to me, but perhaps it's not bad for this lens?

Stephen at CameraQuest has kindly offered to simply swap out my new E-mount 15/4.5 for another as opposed to a return via Amazon (which is return only, no exchanges . . .).
There is absolutely no reason why the E-mount should be any less sharp than my VM mount and don't feel like going on a lens testing odyssey like folks did when it first came out.
Has anyone that had a good copy in VM mount swapped for the E-mount version and found them to be optically very very close? Could it be that my A7RII has a mis-calibrated sensor to flange distance that's not allowing me to get to infinity focus?
