Thanks - I just decided to give it another try - Stephen is going to pay for the returned shipping and the swap-out. So maybe later on next week we'll have copy #2. Wonder how easy it is to adjust the infinity stop on these?

I want a 15mm however I think I am going to hold out a bit longer to see if Zeiss makes a Loxia 15mm.

I feel I have the same issue with my new e mount that the infinity hard stop maybe just a tad short but I still feel that my photos are sharp at infinity.

But, with that being said, I think I almost prefer the infinity hard stop to be just beyond infinity that way I can know for sure depending on conditions that I am actually getting best focus. Does anyone know if there is a way to manually adjust infinity Hard stop?

We'll see how the replacement does. IMHO all modern MF lenses should have an easily adjustable infinity stop (maybe technically that's not easy) for just such situations.

Actually usually a lot of these manual lenses it can be done fairly easily. Now that's if it's setup correctly. Under the rubber focusing ring usually their are three screws that you can loosen adjust infinity than tightening them down. I did this a lot on technical lenses for tech cams . Actually I tethered the camera shot at infinity until I nail it than tightened the lenses. Now I'm not sure about VC lenses but this is a great question to ask Steve at cameraquest or some well known repair shops that work on M lenses.

I've had the inifinity stop adjusted on several lenses, and, as you say, it's usually not hard, BUT it would be nice not needing to be a lens technician to do it as is required on many lenses.

Back in the film days it wasn't an issue as most films didn't have the resolution to really see small differences in focusing at infinity, but with the pixel-peeping power of today's high MP digital sensors these focusing errors can be easily (too easily?) seen.

Really for me this comes into play if I have to make a heavy crop of an image - then you can start to see the effect. I can also see the effect at non-cropped sizes because I usually do multi-step sharpening - i.e., I sharpen a certain amount at full resolution, downsize, then sharpen at the final output. I find that the look of the sharpness of the final image can depend on the original sharpness at 100%. If the original sharpness is not there then the final image can look a bit non-crisp, or to get it crisp it looks a bit over-cooked.

Being mainly a landscape kind of guy, infinity focus is important. For candid portraits, well, I don't do very many of those a infinity-like distances

Did another test today for the corners, as I have one month where the store covers shipping to send the lens to Cosina for inspection.

I think the corners certainly aren't as bad as some other copies in this thread, but I wonder do you think this is a keeper? Or send it to Cosina?

Thanks for your thoughts

I would not keep it. It looks like smeared corners to my aging eyes.

Your corners do seem to have smear at the edges, mine does not. I would exchange it.

My bad copies the hard copy was a fair bit past infinity. My good copy from the new batch the hard stop seems just a smidge past infinity.

Got my replacement E-mount copy (thanks Mr. Gandy!) a few days ago and maybe today I'll have a chance to test it out.

I don't know that seller, but you could also purchase from Robert White in the UK. If you are in the US, it's £477 GBP with UPS basic shipping, which translates to $619 USD. You may need to pay tariff fees, but that would cap at less than $20. The caveat is that you need to use a credit card, not Paypal because Paypal will give you a terrible conversion rate. I would call my credit card company to verify the rate before pulling the trigger. As I wtite this, the conversion rate is £1 = $1.2974. Also, the credit card company may flag it as a bogus transaction so if the conversion rate sounds good, tell them you are going to buy something from the UK and they will clear it. Robert White is a trustworthy dealer. One more thing - since you are looking at the Leica M-mount version of the lens, you will need an adapter to Sony E-mount. I use the K&F Concept LM-NEX and its very good.

Photo village is the East coast distributor for Voightlander. They are a good shop. But check their return policy as they may have a restocking fee.

Well, I did speak with Will at photo village and they said that Voigtlander did make some fixes to the latest batch of lenses and it was because of this thread and because of previous returns that they had received. We need to also take into fact, according to Will, that 15mm is an extreme angle and design but that Voigtlander is trying their best to correct the problem. He's reserving a lens for me out of the latest batch to arrive and I'll be buying it tomorrow. So I'm going to think positive and assume my first copy of the lens will be the only one I have to get!
