A lot of distortion @24mm

Uncorrected

Corrected

A little soft in the corners at F2.8

Following a landscape picture 24mm @11

24mm F11

Not all is sharp, should I go higher to F13 or F16? What about diffraction?

Sorry, I know this link was posted recently, but can someone please provide a link to the decentering test.

Thanks,
Chris

Someone in my forum is also reporting this. Here was my reply

Yea your the 3rd one I heard the same thing. Complicated lens design, so not really surprised in a way. My thinking there is a element alignment out . Could be very minor though but causes the issue. I'm assuming this though. Being a zoom they are pardon this term but built a little lose as all of them are because it has a lot of internal movement with zooming. It's my guess though but from what we know not all focal lengths are not great at every focal length. The weakest on this zoom is 70 although at F4 on center it's very good bout corners I would say F 8 to be safe. Not the case on the other side at 24mm which is actually brilliant even wide open but corners I would say get really good at F 4 and 5.6 optimum. So you can see that difference but totally the same as every zoom as there always seems to be a weak spot somewhere. This zoom will kick a lot of primes to the curb though from 24-50 and that's pretty amazing

Yes distortion was noted in my wall test at 24mm . Not sure about LR but C1 cleans it up very nicely. Now at 28 I did not notice anything significant .

Here is another sample: FE 24-70/2.8GM at 38mm, f/8.
It's very sharp at f/8 center and edges. I captured another image at f/18 for the foreground rocks (DOF)

The sun light was very diffused this afternoon making the lighting on the tufas very special.

BTW: You may see EV+2.0 on the EXIF info. That is correct. I pretty much overexposed 2 stops in order to get very clean shadows in post. (ETTR with zebras)

I need the same thing too... Made an inquiry a page or two back, asking for the link. Still waiting

Another great shot Fred!

BTW, do you miss your tilt shifts? I think I'd miss them for city shots but otherwise.... I may leave them at home when I go to Iceland.

Thanks!
I thought I would miss them more than I actually do. I sold them but re-purchased the TS-E 24/3.5L a while back because there are situations where tilt and shift are a must.

Great picture again....

Is F18 still good IQ ( diffraction?)

Later this week I'm going to run the zoom again since I did get a Loxia 50 and a Sony 28F2 which I really got for a A6300 but maybe I got a better copy coming

Thank you. I only used the f/18 capture for the very foreground rocks and longer exposure time for the water and sky. I used f/8 for most areas of the above image.
Diffraction softens the image but it's still quite recoverable using deconvolution filters.

If you're going to use the MASH method (Miranda Aperture Stack Method) then I don't get the f18 choice with the diffraction hit. If f8 is covering the mid to far field then why does an f8/f18 stack give better results than an f8/f8 stack? I get claustrophobic with those small apertures. I'm assuming the answer is that f/8/f8 still must not be giving sufficient dof so some diffraction is worth more dof.

Note to Sony: Please offer a bulit in ARW deconvolution solution.

AFAIK diffraction effects have well known characteristics and can be undone with a deconvolution algorithm, no?

Two different approaches:
http://thecameraforum.com/test-decentered-lens/ and
http://www.gletscherbruch.de/foto/test/dezentrierung/dezentrierung.html. The last one is in German, Google translate might help for those who don't understand.

Does anybody have experience with ND filter on this lens?

Is a 82mm ND106 filter ok for 24mm landscape?

I also always have trouble that a filter is stuck on a lens? any tips?

Thanks in advance!

You can use one filter at 24mm setting. Get a big rubber band.

I have a latex rubber glove in my bag for getting off stuck filters. Works about every time except when the filter is frozen stuck (happened multiple times).

Thanks for the tips!

I'm also looking into a filter system of Haida (like Lee)
