It shouldn't be the gaming network. I made the same mistake. I cannot remember the correct webpage, but I think the PlayMemories Program (on a PC, not the app or the body) helped me get there. But there was a completely separate account for the apps.
I did try that; apparently the issue is that it is not compatible with Macs. I guess I will have to find a preschool computer (PC) to download the apps.

I've just checked out the apps website, and it seems that silent shutter and uncompressed raw are both supported in several of the other apps (TimeLapse, SmartRemoteControl), but not in Smooth Reflections. I've emailed a contact who has links to Sony to see whether there is any way he can suggest to push this along.

Thanks John,
If enough photographers request these two features, they may do it.
No luck on a PC either. At least I could attempt to purchase the apps, but it won't accept payment. No wonder Sony is racing Nikon to the bottom in camera market share...
Cliff,
I am using Mac and I didn't have any issue downloading the apps back then. You have to sign up and give them you CC info. But better yet, use your camera to download the app then it is free from any OS platform. Easier that way, too.

Doesn't work at all with my Mac now - apparently Sony doesn't support recent OS versions - but I did borrow the PC laptop my wife uses for work, and it lets me in if I use Internet Explorer (but not Chrome...) - but it's all to no avail.
Apparently the only way to purchase an app from the store now (since June 2016) is to find a store that sells physical Sony Playstation gift cards, and then register that card with your playstation account... what a f*cking joke.

Cliff, I know you would be complaining about this but Sony now limits the number of apps into Sony cameras. The limit is 10. Yes, only 10 per each purchase. That's probably the reason the apps can now only be downloaded into the camera directly. So, they can keep track on the number. I am easy going and I don't complain much but I think that sucks. You pay for the apps and now they limit the number that you can install in your cameras. I like Apple's way by limiting to 5 but you can unsubscribe the device that you have sold. I believe Sony just keeps track only by the actual camera body and bodies that you sold cannot be "unsubscribed". So, after 10X you have to pay for the app again. Fortunately, it is not that expensive . I can be wrong here and I hope I am and Sony will let us unsubscribe sold camera bodies.
Joshua, I have installed exactly *none* on this (or any other) camera - there is only the one (Smart Remote) that comes pre-installed.
Trying to install it through the camera ends in the exact same error message as trying to do it through a PC, except it wastes even more time trying to type passwords on the back of the camera.
This has apparently been a known issue since June 2016, and Sony has done nothing to address it. The only current workaround anyone has found seems to be going into a store and buying the PlayStation gift card...
Cliff,
Just to be on the safe side here, let's go over the process. You open an account using your computer and you give them your CC info. You sign up using the exact same ID and password but now you use your camera. I am not aware of the option using PlayStation gift card. That's basically like entering your CC info into the system, I guess. I added another body after June 2016 and that's the way I did it and it worked. I don't know what else to tell you...
Only thing I can say is that it is worth the effort. These apps are one of the biggest things I miss since movung to Fuji. If the a99II supported them, I would probably go back to A mount.
I had the same problem (couldn't install from camera or computer). Added $10 sony credit from amazon and it worked. Ridiculous but went easy once I went down that path.

It won't accept payment from any credit card or PayPal account I own.... but I guess now the next people that hack Sony will have access to all my financial information...

You don't need a physical card. I purchased a digital download and bought two apps with the digital download only minutes after buying the gift cards.
Yes, it's a workaround and Sony should fix it, but it does work, I've had feedback from dozens of people on different forums and you will get your apps that way.
To be honest, these apps aren't that amazing anyway, you're not missing out on much.

A few people on one of the Sony forums commented that downloaded cards did not work either (they were located in Canada, as I am) so I don't really want to throw away money if I don't know that it's a workable solution.
Based on the results I'm seeing from Fred and many others, I would really like to try the Smooth Reflections app, but it's hard to put up with yet more Sony stupidity...

While I understand that this is opinion, I believe the images in this thread disprove it. The great bane of working with ND and Graduated ND filters is the color cast and exposure errors (more for long exposure, high stop ND filter work). For under $20, Sony has solved both issues while providing the cleanest images ever seen on Full Frame Digital Bodies.
Not sure why people are having problems here getting the apps. Just logged into my Sony account (using Chrome) added my credit card, went back to the camera and downloaded Smooth Reflections. Must be individual computer issues. Maybe clearing the cache/cookies on the PC they're using will make it work?
In any case, it seems to me that lots of users are not having a problem getting the apps.

I believe this must be browser related. I never had any issues either. (Mac Safari or Chrome)
PS: I always download/update apps from the camera itself.
