That does not seem right. I did AF fine tune, and settled with +7. If it is consistently off, is there a chance to get another copy ? I hope the fundamental gets sorted out.

I contacted Nikon as it was a refurbished from their store.

Thanks:
I was trying the auto fine tune which worked on the 85mm, it wont work on the 24mm so i suspect it wants that next step that is not available. The 85mm set itself at +4.

I had the same issue with a used 24mm f/1.8 from KEH, and they took it back and exchanged it for another, which was a little better, needing +15 on my D810. I've found not all lenses need the same AFFT on the same camera model (I've 2 D810's) but the 24mm f/1.8 needs the same on both bodies. I think I remember reading before — or maybe after — I got the 24mm that this issue popped up on a number of search results, but I found as long as I can correct it using the camera fine tune, it's not a problem. At +20, it was.

Looking closer at this I noticed the image shifts around the screen while manually focusing like the lens is decentered.

All things you are describing and sharing seem to suggest a bad copy. I did see some people mention about focus issue on B&H review section at one point. Possibly there was a batch of bad copies. Hopefully you get it all sorted out.

Hallo Akul,

I really like your pictures with thos lens posted here!
There are a lot of good examples of what this specific lens can do, and how shots look like.
Of course there are a lot of options in this focal range between 24-28mm now.
Personally I do have the Sigma 24mm 1.4 but I somehow don‘t like it‘s rendering!
So right now I am considering selling it and am looking for something to replace it.
Hard to make the right decision when looking for just one lens though.
The new 28mm 1.4e is phantastic for sure, but quite a bit bigger, heavier, pricier!
And one doesn‘t have the same wide focal view ( the 24mm) which I consider an advantage in many situations.
So the 28mm could stand for it allone and as the perfect focal range when one doesn’t want to carry a 35mm at the same time I think ( could pair perfectly with the 58mm 1.4).

My question is : how does the 24mm 1.8 handle landscapes ? How sharp is it at infinity?
I am not completely satisfied in this regard with my Nikon 20mm 1.8, I don‘t find it‘s sharpness at infinity as good as I would like it, and the microcontrast is lacking in my opinion , compared to my Zeiss ZF 35mm.

Decisions, decisions....

For my use, I find 24/1.8G to be quite competent. It works very well as all round lens. First one is with my usual sharpening and resize. Second one is 100% and no sharpening added. Shot is handheld, so, it does not have the critical acuity, but it is pretty good for my use on D810.

As you can see I use this lens for everyday street, to landscape.

Hi Andreas. The 24/1.8G is an excellent lens and particularly in the hands of Luka If you are seeking the look and IQ of the ZF series I would rent or borrow the 28/1.4E. The 28E is one of the best lenses I have owned and I use 28mm FOV just because of this lens and its rendering and IQ. I still have the 24/35/50 Art lenses which I rarely use now because of the 28E/58G combo.

I can't take such praise Charles . I really think I got lucky with this lens. I am not having issues that people are having. Only thing I needed to do was to do Focus adjustment a little bit, and ever since, it has been 'care free'. Having said that, along the 24 mm range, I have 14-24, 24-70, ZF2 25/2.8 and 24/1.8 I enjoy all of them, but 24/1.8 G is used quiet often now because of the combination of light weight and image quality. Zf.2 25/2.8 is pretty awesome little lens with typical old Zeiss rendering. High contrast, and vivid color.(not to be confused with f2 version, which I have no experience sith ) Only thing I have been bitten is flare. I had some bad flare ruining some shots in the past. Other thing with 25/2.8 is difficulty of focusing for street / snap situation. With High MP body like D810, even 25/2.8 still requires accurate focus. One day, when I get a Z series body, all my MF lenses will be used far more than they are today. I can feel it.

Back to subject, I think today, for Landscape use in the 24 mm range, the candidates are

Zeiss Milvus 25mm 1.4
Sigma Art 24 1.4
Nikon 24/1.4
Nikon 24/1.8
Zeiss Zf.2 25/2 ( if it is still in production)
Zeiss Zf.2 25/2.8

I am always interested using wide open for landscape, so I am a bit weird. that way, so having 1.4 would be an advantage, but as an overall usage, I chose 1.8G, and I am not regretting.
