Yeh, that's my thoughts. I can get a nice used Nikon 14-24 for under $1500.

There's a big difference between 11 and 14mm on FX though.

Why not shoot in Tv mode to freeze motion, and allow shifting aperture and Auto ISO to control exposure changes? Is there something I'm not getting?

Yup...thats exactly what I have been doing, but at times I do not want 2.8, I rather go to 3.5. So while I am playing with the numbers, I am missing shots. I want to be able to lock down 1/160 3.5 Auto ISO and tell the camera to under expose -1. If anyone has ever shot High School plays or performances before, they know why the exposure is set to -1. Those spot lights are very harsh.

Why not shoot with manual aperture and shutter speed, allowing only auto ISO? Or does the 5Ds still not have proper auto ISO like the 1D X?

But as Canon have sensibly added this feature into it's most recent high end cameras (the ability to select M and have the camera decide the correct exposure using ISO) then it does make sense to add exposure compensation to this mode. To not add it to a flagship new model is a great shame. It's not like it would have cost them anything at all.

Canon really do appear to have made this camera down to a price - the old 5D3 body coupled with oversized sensors from the 7D2 production line. Much less investment and thought has gone into

AMEN!!! Someone finally understands what the feature does in the DX and 7d2. No matter what you want to call it, Manual mode in not exposure comp, unless you want to play with the ISO continuously while shooting. If you are in Manual, and the ISO is in auto, the camera will adjust the ISO for what it thinks is the correct exposure and there is no way to drop to down to -1. Only the DX and 7d2 have this option. I do hope the new 5d4 does.

Because in manual aperture and shutter with auto ISO, the camera will dial in what it thinks is the proper exposure. Which is not when I need at -1 or -2 drop. But only the DX and 7d2 allow you do make that adjustment. And it didn't originally ship with the DX, it was added later after many complaints to Canon...so I heard.

Yes, it was in a firmware update. Is it known whether the 5Ds also has true auto ISO with EC or is it assumed not to have that because the body is based on the 5D III?

The price for this lens is ridiculous!

When I heard they were making a 11mm rectilinear lens that was pretty much what I expected it was going to cost. If it's worth doing something extreme like that then it's worth doing properly and making a lens that's sharp at 11mm.

If you think that's bad, you should see how much they charge for an f/5.6!

Oh wow! Very encouraging.

Love the little tiny spot of flare in the one shot where the sun is just in/out of the frame. Well controlled. I've seen lenses completely lose contrast under those conditions.

Well, these are sport-type cameras, and I see why they would have this feature, and not other models. I'd say the 5D series won't have this feature in later models, but who knows. How about getting a 7D2 now, or wait a bit longer as the prices of 1DX come down further?

Why? It's just programming and even the $1000 Nikon bodies have had EC in manual aperture/shutter auto ISO node for years.

MTF says its not as sharp as either 16-35.... I suspect this will be a very niche lens.... Real Estate people will likely love it as will the fine-art crowd.

Why is it Canon's American sites hardly ever publish this cool technical stuff? Do they think we're stupid and disinterested on this side of the pond?

Canon Professional Network (CPN) is actually a pretty cool website. Just bookmark it and forget about the usa.canon site.

I've read all 22 pages and I'm disappointed that there isn't more to this camera. I was hoping a high MP cam would spur Canon lens sales to help me sell the gear I have now to fund a 1Dx purchase. That doesn't seem likely.

It does seem that the market is fragmenting more...the travel/lightweight crowd is moving to MLC, sports and wildlife guys 7D2, everything else is case by case. The 5D3 is an awesome all around camera, it's still tough to beat. It will be interesting to see the results from this camera, and also how it impacts the market.
