p.7 #1 · Cometh the 5D-S (R) down the isle....

The 5d3 sensor is not terrible by any stretch. I've touted it as 'the best wedding camera in the market' for the past three years. And I still believed that...up until the d750. But the 5d3 is PLENTY good enough...hell, I cant even believe I'm saying that...of course it's good enough...it's a GREAT camera.

I personally never bought into the sensor hype...until I owned a Sony rx1. I shot with it for a year along side my 5d3. The difference is real. It was a weird feeling not wanting to reach for my 5d3 on the weekends because I preferred the rx1 files.

Enter the d750. Its basically a 5d3 with a better sensor, tilt screen and wifi for $1300 less than the 5d3 was released.

Behind the D750 certainly, but not "terrible" — in 2012 engadget called it simply incredible in every way — game changing — godsmack images are made with it everyday — not terrible — besides, it's laughable that anyone with a history of Leica digital cameras could call ANY Canon product "terrible", lol. But that's a special kind of crazy I won't touch.

I'll stop. New rules — brand bashing is ok now.

Heck, when Nikon brings out a line of wireless radio flashes that don't sputter grease or have weird light flares, I'll probably switch too.

I don't think it's reasonable to label someone a troll simply because they call a camera terrible. You should check out a real troll. Comparatively, the gap between the cameras is quite wide. In isolation, we all agree that any pro worth their salt can shoot a wedding with a 5D3. I do it most weekends over the summer and I'm only worth cheapo low-sodium salt

And this is Canon's problem. For some reason they still seem to treat actual features (like tilt and wifi) like beginner features and they seem to price as if they don't have any competitors.

Tony, out of interest, what's your procurement plan for the future?

I gotta ask. What's the big deal with a tilt screen?

Or even a Mk2. Or Mk1. Or some crap Sony churned out in 2008. Could happen!

When we're talking cameras, bold opinions are thrown around, but take them for what they're worth. It's just a camera, nothing changes that. But sure, there are always pros and cons, and things one person might personally prefer.

Going to wait on the 5D4 in August then re-evaluate. More than likely it will be good and we'll upgrade our cameras then. If it's an absolute bomb, I'll switch systems. It's seems ridiculous to me that I can't use an amazing marketing tool (instant Instagramming with hashtags) in 2015 because Canon hasn't delivered wi-fi yet.

My biggest hesitation towards switching is that I'm fairly convinced that we'll want to switch to mirrorless within 3-5 years if it catches up. So I don't really want to switch to Nikon and have to switch again shortly after.

Putting the camera in unusual positions that make it difficult to look through the viewfinder or see the screen when it is flat

Ha. I shoot like 99% of my portraits lying on the ground. Do you have any idea how much laundry that is? Amy would pay like $300k for a tilting screen for the laundry alone.

That's largely my thinking too. I may just switch to Mirrorless when I replace my 5D3s.

Doug is most definitely not a troll. He is only guilty of speaking in extremes. Something is either 'the best thing ever' or 'absolutely terrible' with Doug.

I'm just glad he's my friend and still considers me 'absolutely awesome'! I'd hate to be his enemy!

Agreed. I find it keeps life more interesting listening to these extremes!

That's the thing...Canon still thinks it's the s$#t. This is largely why I do not hold out huge hope for the 5D4....they do not feel threatened.

I agree. That's pretty lame. Especially since the pricing is pretty proportionately higher too..

Pissing contest if ever there was one, I really hope this is fake.

Maybe nikon should put 11.5EV and 14EV on some mugs or "welcome to three years ago"

...yep - 7d2 - with a nice silencer also

--Canon lowered its price of 5d3 to $2549, to compete, and while Nikon 750 wasn't shipping

--smart to wait and see - patience is a virtue. no business delta to drive change when the answers are only 4 and 6 months away

--I believe the fall release will be called 5dx - since #4 is unlucky in some counties and the x is what they called the 1ds after version 3

--I never thought 1.6 crop could reach 5d2 hi iso performance, but it has with the 7d2 with no banding; therefore I predict 5dx will be 1 stop better than 5d3 in high iso noise - which is the difference between a f2.8 lens and a f4 lens with light. Those with 1d4 and 7d2 are telling me 7d2 is as good in iso, and 7d2 is better in many ways.

--canon has released some great lenses in last few years - I'd expect this to continue, hopefully with revamping some of their f1.8 - f2 primes between 50 and 135 and adding IS

--if canon puts 10-12 fps in the 5dx, then I'd expect that might signal the end of the 1d series updates. If it is 7-8 fps, I'd expect another 1d to be launched, perhaps a combo of 5ds and 5dx in 1 body.

--I'd expect the 5dx to have 4k video and a flippy and wifi

--I think dr might still be 2 below the sony

we'll see,

canon needs to advance on mirror-less in no more than 1-2 years after this. If they snooze, they will lose. Competition is a good thing
