Little or no discussion of the 50 MP camera's DR.

I guess one of those big review sites said the dynamic range will be same as the 5D3.

I'm thinking noise at the pixel level will be worse than 5D3 (and even 5D2). Pixel noise should be like a cropper.

But it has a beefed-up tripod mount.

I guess 50mp is the magic number to bring down the DPReview site. Been trying to get on for an hour. I think it melted to the ground.

I'm going to pass on these.

And a 5D4 announcement in late summer actually has me kind of relieved to be honest. It means I won't be buying another camera body until Winter/Spring 2016.

A 5D4 probably won't have any increased dynamic range if this one doesn't.

Canon's pricing still seems out of line with their direct competitors. This camera is $700-$900 more expensive than the Nikon d810. I can't imagine that the 5d4 will come close to the Nikon d750 in terms of price? Probably another $700ish difference between the two with potentially a sensor that just doesn't measure up?

My exact thinking. Save for Spring of 2016

We'll most likely see price drops quickly. Those who want 50mp bad enough will pre order. For everyone else, they'll wait for it to hit $3k.

Either way, I have no interest in selling off my Canon gear....just simply isn't work the time and effort in selling and re-buying everything. Especially as a Canadian where our dollar has been hit hard. I'd basically have to buy everything new.

Interesting how shooting styles have changed over the decades.

In the film days - MF was THE wedding format of the pros - this Canon 5D-S MP monster would fit right in with that shooting style.

But with shift to digital the shooting style has shifted to the run and gun style of shooting more more - which this new camera isn't really suited for.

I don't really think this camera was designed for the current pro wedding photographer - I think it was designed to combat the downward shift of the MF cameras that hit the market last year for the studio photographers.

A little update.... I was mis-spoken .... right(?!)... wrong about the dig!c 6.
I found a flow diagram of the signal coming from the sensor.
There are separate A/D converters prior to the dig!c 6 processors.
4 of them in parallel. This allows 16 channel processing. then the signal moves to hte 2 Dig!c 6 processors.

Another addition to the camera besides a redesigned mirror box to reduce vibration is a new Auto WB setting. An Auto-W: it is meant to help control the red channels

As Spencer mentioned... looks like more going on under the hood than just an up-scaled 7DmkII sensor.

There is mention on the Japanese site on S/N development ... which is at the heart of noise/dynamic range. No specific numbers, just stating Canon has been working on different processing techniques to address this area.

Agree with another member over in the Canon forum section that this camera aims towards the wedding shooters of old or past that used Medium format. This camera does have that vibe to it.
I still think this can rock weddings.
if you like to shoot through the moment with 6+ fps ... then this is not the camera for you.

If I remember correctly, the 1Dx was announced in October of 2011, and a lot of people did a preorder. Then canon slipped in with the 5D Mark III announcement in March of 2012 and ended up making that available earlier than the 1Dx. Maybe they are doing a similar strategy with this announcement.

WOW - a Feb announcement for a June release Camera?

That's 4 months of a lot of talk about a camera that isn't in the public's hands...a little FUD to keep people from switching?

I figured you didn't get that right; my understanding was that analog-to-digital converters are a separate item from the digic processors.

most likely improved ISO performance

Just saw where a Canon representative said that the noise performance should be the same as the 7D2 cropper because, he said, the pixel size and processors are the same between these two cameras. So this means a step-down in ISO performance from the 5D3.

Personally, I don't think I could handle the noise from a crop body as my main camera for wedding work. I have crop and full frame now and there's considerable noise difference between them.

Interesting little video (~12min) from European Canon CPS person.

Topic: Discusion the 5DS/R.
Main take away: This is a specific niche camera with Studio/Landscape shooters in mind. This is a camera mainly intended for photographers and not video-centric.

Here's my thoughts on the 5ds, should anyone be bored enough to have a look lol!

It's a preview article based on what we know so far. I'll do a proper review sometime when I get my hands on one...
