What tempts me to Nikon:
36mpx
dynamic range at low iso
14-24

What keeps me in Canon/A7r:
No TS17 in Nikon - this alone eliminates nikon for landscape for me
200-400 1.4x
600f4v2 with 1.4iii
Every time I pick up my buddies d800, it takes me forever to set it. Maybe just because I used to it.
My friends d800 went back twice for issues. My 5diii never blushes.

No, you're confused. It being here has not benefited me. I think you're arguing for the sake of arguing - which you can do until the cows come home.

When I want to learn about Nikon equipment, I'll manually click on the NIKON FORUM or do a topic search.

But it's pretty hard for you to tell me what does or doesn't benefit me - you have absolutely no idea what I'm interested in and you certainly haven't been reading my mind.

The pissing and moaning has me more intrigued than ever. I see in Nikon threads praise for Canon gear with very little push back. I will start a similar thread over there in a few days and see what kind of reaction I get. Will Nikon users be more measured in their response? I love many of the replys it's fascinating reading Canon users opinions on Nikon gear. To me anyway.

"... to see what kind of reaction I get".

Kind of puts the whole thread into context, doesn't it.

Not at all. I actually didn't expect all the pissing and moaning. So yes now I'm curious. Are Nikon loyalists too loyal to admit Nikon faults, like poor warranty repair support, lack of 1.2 glass, 70-200 focus breathing problems, AF issues, cheaper build quality(China+Taiwan), missing zooms, no IS primes, etc. I'm now really curious.

If you asked what I like/dislike about Canon, I would have had plenty to say.

I really enjoyed the mf film gear, fm, fm2, fe2, f3 and lenses like 35 1.4 ais, 50 1.2 ais and 105 2.0.
Loved the f5 and the original af 28 1.4d.

Today, I like the D750 and the 14-24; an exceptional WA zoom.
I also love the quality and value of a couple of Nikon's f4 zooms, 24-120 and 200-400.
The 24-120 has better iq and more reach than my 24-105.
The 200-400 has excellent iq, on par with the Canon counterpart, with better value.
I can bring my own 1.4 and 1.7 teles.
Sticking with Canon for now, yet, tempted to add a D750, 14-24 & 24-120.
Maybe an add for '15.

Nikon magic resided in the knowledge that they were reliably shot by Vietnam era dudes and hardcore documentary photogs. Add simplicity, ergonomics, reliability and a sense Canon couldn't quite match them as photographer's tools.

Now that this thread is in an appropriate place instead of troll baiting in the Canon forum:

Likes:
-D3s/D700. My two favorite Nikon bodies that just fits right in your hand. The d4 and d800 never felt right and seems like I needed to hold them firmly to get a good grip.
-Big fat pixels on the D3s/D700 that make photos look organic like the 5Dc
-14-24mm is just amazing. Canon's 16-35ii is pretty meh
-DX lenses are way better than their EF-S counterparts, build quality and performance-wise (ex. 17-50)
-built-in Intervalometer
-24-70mm for the longest time was unmatched until the Canon's slightly better 24-70mmII was released
-Legacy lenses
-Teleconverters

Dislikes:
-Fragile zoom mechanisms. The 14-24s and 24-70s get stuck so often when I used to work at a gear rental company that they spend a lot of time in repair
-Rubber zoom rings tend to undo themselves over time
-Fragile mounts. This little screw stopper thing on the lens mount would undo itself easily, then if you accidentally turn the lens the other direction when mounting, you will have one hell of a time taking it off. Oh, and the arm that engages the diaphragm will be bent and completely go out of spec.
-Super expensive superteles. A used Non-VR 400mm f/2.8 cost as much as a Canon 400mm f/2.8L IS

Like:
- the D810 delivers by far the best image quality and betters all but the latest MF backs costing 10 times more. It does that with very few drawbacks,
- brilliant auto ISO combined with very well damped mirror/shutter ensures a very high ratio of tack sharp images handheld,
- Electronic first curtain ensures tack sharp images 100% of the time on tripod,
- amazing AF with pro lenses such as my new 400mm f2.8 E,
- many Nikon lenses such as the 24mm f1.4, 58mm f1.4 and 85mm f1.4 combine good to best in class technical qualities with a special look/character,
- the F mount lenses can be used on Canon and Sony bodies which makes them excellent investments,
- very wide pool of legacy MF lenses that are still usable.

Not like
- the lack of full frame mirrorless body optimized for MF lenses while enabling fast AF,
- the 200mm f2.0 II VR is one of the best lenses ever designed, but the current version is too heavy for my liking. I don't understand why they haven't released the E version yet. Using the technology used in the 400mm f2.8 E it would be the ultimate portrait lens and much lighter,
- the lack of a 17mm T/S is the only real hard to by-pass limitation I can think of and the sole aspect of the Canon system that would help my photography more than what I currently have in the F mount system. But then again DoF stacking, when applicable, is a much better solution anyway.

Cheers,
Bernard

Like:
Bodies always feel fairly nice to use (exception of the D800 grip size)
Firmware is usually well sorted before release
Class leading resolution and dr
Trend to not have AA filters
Affordable well performing 1.8G lens line

Dislike:
Quality issues with many bodies on release
Very poor innovation outside of sensors
‘Impact damage’ cited for any issues and problems getting genuine warranty work done. No parts to non-approved repair shops
Some very old lenses still awaiting updates
Prices of lenses is now bordering on absurd
Releasing new ‘fixed’ versions of cameras so value plummets after just 2 years
Very little obvious strategy for product releases
General arrogance with regard to customers

My old tech Nikon's focus in the dark while the 5d3 wielding Canon shooters I work with have to get out their iphone to use it as a flashlight to focus.

I like that!

I just hate everything else

If I could have an entire canon system attached to my D750 I would be in heaven.

Correct me if I'm wrong but Canon is a $40B company. On the flip side Nikon is a $6B dollar company. One of the smallest of all the camera makers. I know all the camera makers are struggling in the market right now but sometimes famous brands do disappear.

Is the possibility that they may disappear a like or a dislike for U?

As far as I know only Canon and Nikon are making money selling cameras these days.

Cheers,
Bernard

Nikon has been all about compromise for me. I got into Nikon with a pair of F3 bodies many years ago.
Likes;
Viewfinder was bright, interchangable screens and viewfinders, lenses used mostly 52mm filters, D70 came out inexpensively. Ais lenses were good.
Dislikes;
Not selling parts to independent repair shops, manuals suck, new DSLR cameras with major problems and too many modes and difficult menu adjustments, unhappy with colors for faces in the DSLR's that I had (except for the D300 colors that I liked, the D70 and D7000 face colors I don't like), all kinds of filter sizes now; 52, 58, 67, 72, 77, Nikon fanboys saying Nikon everything is wonderful (stop saying their flash system is so great), zooms with inferior internals that break, 18-zooms (why 18mm?), no more push-pull zooms, going away from CF cards, impact damage and then voiding the warranty, no idea where Nikon is heading because they don't discuss anything with their loyal customers, unimpressed with a lot of the new prime lenses especially the wide angles, too much emphsis on zooms (I like primes but not F1.4 primes), why 1.8 prime lenses? Why not F2 primes without distortion or veiling flare?

Definitely a dislike. While they are making money from camera sales their net income continues to decline year after year. Plus their projections for 2015 are less than 2014. I have to assume it will turn around but it's also possible a conglomerate like Samsung buys out whatever valuable IP they have.

All conjecture of course, all we can do is wait and see.
