Who cares any more. Canon has diddled around and hasn't produced anything of consequence since the 1DSIII which they screwed us on pricewise, and printers and scanners which they refuse to update drivers for as new OSs emerge. They have become the latest dinosaur staggering to it doom. May they join Kodak in the long line of companies that thought they could stay on top by sitting on their butts.
Seems to me that from the wording of the advert whatever they plan to announce tomorrow is aimed at silencing their critics (see previous 5 pages and countless threads ). I'm quite sure their printer line hasn't generated countless gigabytes of forum discussion so it wont be that. A new camera seems likely, but if it has a whole new revolutionary sensor they've definitely done a good job of keeping us in the dark up to this point.
In the corporate world if you can't develop whatever, you acquire the compamy that has. It's a long-shot but, Canon could be acquiring the digital camera division of Sony including sensor development or similar acquisition. This could be a prelude to a new corporate direction for Canon. A re-branding.
Another corporate axium is if you can't compete with them, acquire the competion. I really don't think this is a new product announcement.
This is a marketing disaster. All they did was raise the hopes of canon users only to most certainly disappoint the masses. It will no doubt be something that is an evolutionary upgrade. If it is something that truly seems impossible today it will be priced in the stratosphere.
I guess that the exploding box on the upper left side of the add means "Think out of the box", so it would not be something we expect. I would love to see a new 35mm DSLR with a new tech sensor but I guess that is not the case here. My wild guesses are something related with MF or cellphones or maybe a new camera line with a new mount. Tomorrow we will know..
8K full frame 1DXXX, with 4k video, 15 fps, 30+ MP, triple Digic 6+, dual pix AF, water resistance to 6 fathoms, mirror lockup button, built-in interval button, gps and wft...whew Get ready for the Impossible...
IMHO, it sounds bit like they hear constant complains about Canon being only "good enough" and behind competition and just want to let us know, they have still some good cards.

It does, but it also covers a lot of other things. Peanut gallery generally refers to those (creators, actors, etc.) who already have an audience. Gear forums are mostly just an island that no one outside pays much attention to.
I still think it is just marketing because it says nothing. It goes along the same lines of Canon's "Rebel" theme, so maybe that is being expanded or something like that. If it had to be gear, I'd guess something along those line, like the rebel name being expanded in some way (maybe the next EOS-M camera has 'rebel' in the name) or such.

I would assume that a 1DXXX would have the skin smoothing algorithm talked about in the patent.

If it relates to an improved sensor 7D Mark II sales would die. So it's gotta be Canon announcing... nothing.
7D2 sales only die if they release something superior but in the same range. This announcement is possibly about a $7500 1DX II - something that is expected to be superior seeing as it is 4x as much money and aimed at an entirely different crowd.

I also think there are some Nikon users who are deluded if they think that Nikon glass is what we are most envious of. We lust for a new sensor but it's built by Sony, not Nikon...
