Picked up a used 50mm f/1.4d to see how it stacks up against the 1.8g in real life. My assistant Layla was happy to help, in trade for some fetch at the park.
She mostly didn't care. The plastic outer shell of the 1.8g was better to chew on. It was too windy out for her to note a preference in AF sound. She was a little annoyed by how severe the CA is on the 1.4d wide open, especially with her high contrast paint job.
The D lens renders really consistently with the way my other D lenses do. The biggest shortcoming so far is sharpness beyond 10' or so wide open. The G lenses always tend to function better in challenging conditions. I will probably keep both a while

So how does it stack up? Did Layla prefer fetching the D lens over the supr lightweight G lens?

This very large iron sculpture is located in the front yard of a private residence within a very well to do neighborhood. Someone must really love dogs to commission something like this.

Looks like a lot of German Shepherd in there.
The father was a German Shepherd, the mother is part Golden Retriever and part Bernese Mountain dog. So far it looks like she will grow up to be a huge pile of fur with enormous energy
