question for you guys -- what are some of your focusing techniques to shoot a dog running towards you? I personally find it very hard. Any tips would be much appreciated.

The D750 handles dogs running towards the camera very nicely. Good light and a fast lens helps, too (I used a Nikon 85/1.8G). Previously I struggled with similar shots using a D7000 and 55-200mm zoom lens - the focus lagged and most shots had the dog's shoulder in focus, rather than the head. Not sure if the lens, camera, or both were at fault (I suspect the lens).
For me, practice was definitely a factor, and playing with different camera settings. It helps to start focusing before the dog is in optimal range so that the focus system has a chance to lock on to the dog's head.
For the pictures on the previous page I used auto-ISO with a minimum shutter speed of 1/1000 (most were at 1/2500 or 1/4000), f/5.6, AFC-9, and shutter set to continuous low. Don't know if those were the "best" settings but they worked.
My wife visited friends who asked to see dog pictures. They pulled up the "dogs running in snow" shots on their wide-screen TV and apparently every whisker showed clearly. Whew!
