is there a big difference in terms of AF speed between D700 and D3?
someone is offering me his D3 and im thinking whether to get it or just get a 2nd D700 body and spend the extra cash on glass...

No, there is no difference in AF speed because both cameras use the same AF module. D3 offers 100% viewfinder while D700 only 98%.

Mshi: The D700 does not have 98% coverage in its viewfinder. IT only has 90% coverage (95% vertical and 95% hor.)!

D3 has faster AF than the D700.
