These are already in the 200 mm thread but what the hell. I bought a D800E last year but I'm definitely keeping the D700. I like to pair it with the 200/2G. 14-24 usually goes on the D800E.
On my my third D700 after trying many different systems (m4/3, Fuji X, D600). Love the controls on this camera more than anything else. Wish there was a way to stuff the D600 sensor in the D700 body. I loved the D700 even more when I bought a 70-200 VR2. It weighs 8 pounds with grip and SB910 mounted, but makes an awesome action shooter.
I don't have my D700 anymore, but everyone's photos in this thread and their truthful comments reminded me how great that camera was, no...IS! It was my first FF. Ahh, you never forget your first.

Shot this photo today at my work.
Nice one, Dan. Since the latest 'firmware update' I've been using ISO LO 1.0 in lighting like this.
It's that, or slappin' on an ND. Found myself bumpin' against 1/8000th all too often w/fast zooms.
I feel obligated to tell that the D700 is old technology and you are combining it with the old 200-400/4 VR1 and so you will NOT be capable of taking a picture just like the one you posted.

Never knew about that Trenchmonkey. Thanks for the heads up. Got another shoot today (same senario), I'll give it a try.
