Figure we need a thread to show our 300mm F2.8 photos. Everytime I go into the 200mm F2 thread, I start lusting after it. What it has done though, is make me get out and shoot with my 300mm and using it in situations, I probably wouldn't have used it as heavily before like for portraits. It has now become one of the more versatile lenses in my collection just behind the 70-200mm.
I say we welcome all Prime F2.8's and the trio of teleconverters to go with them.
Some of mine. I really want to get out more this weekend to get more images. Hopefully it will be nice weather for me to do so. I am ready to see all of the amazing photos taken with this lens...
I've been using a 500mm f4 for years. Late last year I acquired a 300 2.8, struggled a little at first with the lens. Now its become my favorite. This lens has made me mobile again, I can grab it be the foot, throw the TC's in the backpack and go, hike all day in the woods carrying it, easy to handhold. Tripod and monopod along with the 500 sits at home most days. The 300 2.8 is by far the most flexible lens I've used for wildlife. When the lights good I have a 1.7 on it, as the days light fades I move to the 1.4 and then bare 300. No other setup gives this kind of flexibility.
If you can't tell I'm loving 300 2.8
Heres a shot with a 1.4.

Nice shot Mike. I feel the same way. I grab the lens by the foot and head out on the trail.(rrs replacement) Nice not having to use a tripod and increases the flexibility!

This thread is going to destroy my wallet
Yeah, it very well could. So it's probably best to either give in and buy this lens, or set your wallet down, cover your eyes and count to 10, so It can go run and hide.
Sweet Red bull racing shots. Wow, fast shutter and still some prop blur. Those tips must be closer to supersonic. I have to get to one of those races one of these years.
Oh dear! Just last night I had talked myself out of buying this lens. I take this post as a sign I should reconsider! Looking forward to seeing what this lens can do, so please post me up!
As much as I used mine for BdA BIF captures, I took a perverse? joy
in my candid portrait captures...employing the naked 300 f2.8 VR.
