I got on the B and H list for the Nikon mount based on all the excellent info, save one poster who took his pictures home, presented here. Looking like an early April ship date which will match up nicely with soccer and baseball fun. Leaves plenty of time for testing by all here to expose a fatal error. Keep the info flowing and THANKS!
I used a sigma 120-300 with a 1.4X and 2XTC until it fell on the floor last spring. Full insurance covered it but I haven't replaced yet.
I think I am like most . Looking for things to look for . I can not afford right now ,
hopefully in March [ Xmas / taxes ]
Anyway , most of the shots I have seen , I would be happy with .
This lens would be for shots I could not get with other lenses I have . [ 35-350 , 70-300 , 135-400 ,
70-200 + 2X III ]
I don't sell or even have friends that know the difference between a sharp one and one
that needs sharpening .
What this lens offers me is the chance to use 600 mm . Am I good enough - no - with a little
practice - maybe .
I think this is going to be a try it yourself lens - not a mount and you get good shots -
like that lens exists .
I am going to get one , last friday the 95 mm filter arrived [ was back ordered and I did not think
it would be in before next month .
Anyway , thanks everyone for the info so far -
To some it up - hood can be reversed - best I Q at F 8 @600 mm , supplied software is mainly
for vignetting - no info on vignetting on 7 D with hood @ 600 mm , AF slows way down with
less light . Will be OK on my 7D but suck on the XTI , canon extender Won't fit .
Probably like the 35-350 , will need MAing at wide and long ends .

Wouldn't shipping and any taxes or fees be much less to just get it shipped over to you from B & H or Adorama?
Probably not actually, I have done this before and the import and shipping duties usually take up most of the difference and if there is a problem it's a pain to send back.
I bought a new 24-105L from B&H years ago and it came with a lump of glue stuck under the middle of the front element. It was a right PITA to get that sorted.

Carefully calculated by some beancounter somewhere

I deleted all the samples I posted since everyone is only interested in graphs and static tests and nobody wanted to see them.
I think you overreacted by deleting all your post. Reminds me of a little kid picking up all his marbles and going home, just cause the other boys wouldn't let him win. I only said that someone that has the feedback of so many photographers and can compare lenses might be worth paying attention to. Sorry if I offended you as much as I did.
The pictures of the tiger at 600mm seem to give a 300mm with a 2X a pretty good run for its money and there seems to be more contrast.
There does seem to be a slight problem with colour aberations, which is not surprising and I imagine correctable.
