And which two prime lenses would you put on your two A7r?

FE 55 and 35. I can wait for the 16-35/4 for wider angles. that's just me, and I currently have no plans to carry 2 A7R. These standard Zooms are usually so large and unwieldy, and a good prime will still beat them optically. On Canon and Nikon , I used a 24-70 a lot, but you won't see me with such combo again. I'll just zoom with my feet with a lighter, less intimidating kit.

He shot mostly at f/11, with most of the rest of the shots at f/8 and even f/22. He is probably seeing diffraction at those f-stops, and isn't really testing the performance in the same way most of us here do. If he really wants that much depth of field, I am not sure that FF cameras are the best choice.

Trouble for me is neither of the primes are stabilised and I have found the zoom OSS to be very impressive.

If you were going with 2 cameras, I'd go A7R and RX1R combo ... but that's just me.

Isn't Sony using some new technology to counter diffraction at f11 - f22?

Hi, those of you who got their 24-70, what's the firmware?

I got it along with A7 today and Firmware version shows 1.01 for the camera and .01 for the lens.

I am a bit afraid if its a pre-production version used previously as a display piece..

The lens is from the first delayed European batch. I ordered it at the Sony online store.

Mine Comes next week :-) Looking @ Tim Ashley´s 24-70 test I am quite sure I will keep it. Tim is quite picky, sent this 24-70 back after the test shots because softness LHS.

I shoot 95% landscapes at infinity and I just can't get to like the FE 35. Not knocking the lens, but it just doesn't resonate with me. I would much prefer an FE 18 or FE 24. I've now gone to using the Canon 24mm L 1.4 II on the A7R which produces a beautiful image but with the Metabones is outsized and over weight for handheld use while hiking. It almost defeats the purpose of a small camera. I carry the RX100 in my pocket for up close images. Maybe the 35 will grow on me?

Maybe not, first impressions often ring true. Being a great believer in the totality of images shot with a lens reflecting the strengths of the lens, the FE35 strikes me as a great general purpose close to medium distance artistic lens.

Fussy WA users could be best served by an FE24 which won't appear as S/Z get lots of zooms out there to counter the 'not enough native lenses' crowd. I'll await a manual focus Zeiss wide angle, sure to be a stunning lens, in 9-15 months time. For landscape and interiors, MF suits many better in any case, Maybe this is why the next prime is likely to be an 85/1.8.

The fiddliness of juggling adapters, two sets of lens caps and lens cases and two interfaces gets old fast, plus each non-native lens weighs 100 grams more and is an inch longer than it should be. OK for more relaxed shooting of course, or for users of a range of same mount lenses.

How are the edges? So far the review's I've seen from asia indicates that the edges are not up to zeiss standard compared to the A mount 24-70. Also noticed some complaints of vignetting wide open.

Welp, I got mine today and I either got a defective copy or I have the sharpest A7 kit lens ever made. Tried some test shots and felt like it was way too soft, so I did some comparison shots between the two and it was embarrassing how much better the 28-70 resolved detail. I wasn't even pixel peeping or shooting extremes. Tried center focus at 35mm and 50mm, 5.6 and 1/125th on both lenses and the 28-70 was substantially sharper every single time. Annoying but B&H is overnighting me another one so hopefully the new one will be issue-free and I can do some real comparisons between the two to determine how much better the 24-70 is knowing I have what seems to be a sharp copy of the 28-70.

There seems to be way too many "bad copies" of this lens. I cancelled the order we had. Anyone else have what they think is a poor copy?

Too bad, it seemed like a nice progression from the 35 and 55.
