p.5 #1Sony FE 24-70 lens
The negative effects of software corrections tend to scale with the pixel size, meaning that higher sensor resolution is a good base for software correction of CA. It would be interesting to see if a software corrected image from a lens with CA as the only significant aberration at 36 MP delivers more resolution than a perfect lens at 24 MP.

Quit reading the doubters and just go shooting. Always works for me.

I want to see some verdicts from within this trusted community. It's a convenient zoom option to have, but it needs to be good enough to replace since-long-qualified companions such as CY 35-70 or CY 28-85 :-)

I'm starting to think I'll just use the cheapo 28-70 when I really need a zoom and stick to my primes for now. He just saved me $1300...

His critique reminds me a little bit of using the ZA 24-70 in my A900 in the past, as it had similar sharpness characteristics.

One thing that used to stick in the back of my mind a bit was theSuede's comments about the A900's sensor toppings and how they influenced lens performance. If I recall correctly, he said that the D3x used a much higher quality AA filter, and I can't help but wonder how much of these issues are lens vs. sensor topping related.

A good review and I suggest a read of the entire thread as well. After having done so, I think with an amount of correction, the results will be acceptable to me. What will be helpful is a developed lens correction setting for ACR/LR which has not surfaced. I truly hope it will.

Lightroom has lens corrections for all the other FE lenses, so I think it's a safe bet that we will see one for the 24-70 in the next release.

After a brief outing, very happy with it. Focus got nailed in all shot and OSS eliminated the blurs i was getting in some prime shots (used to stabilised lenses so not keeping speed high enough) no such issues with the zoom, seems to default to 1/160 or 1/80 depending on zoom.

If Sony and Zeiss intends to announce the 16-35/4, they could probably have made a better lens by focusing this lens to 35-70/4 instead of 24-70.

That would be a combo to my liking - not to mention a 35-70 should be an easier focal range to manage the IQ.

I don't think I've ever seen a 16-35 that wasn't pretty disappointing from about 28-35mm though.

That said, I'm a big fan of the 16-35, 50, 70-200 combo. I'm probably going to skip this 24-70 altogether, unless reports about its abilities start improving.

I actually have no interest in this 24-70. I've been there, done that with Canon and Nikon. I'd rather have 2 A7R, both with primes on them. No need for changing lenses or zooming. 24-70 zooms mainly exist for convenience. A convenience that a second camera would solve much better.

And which two prime lenses would you put on your two A7r?
