The sea gull shot was taken with the A7r and the Zeiss Jena 135 mm F/3.5

More coastal scenes with the A7r and Minolta Zoom MD 35-70 mm F/3.5 Macro

Thanks for the kind words. I had two days on the coast last week and the weather was wonderful. I just had to aim the camera.

sebboh, zhangyue and Steve Spencer - Thanks for shooting advice with Rokkor 58, I'll bring today tripod so I can try f/2 and f/2.8. I have also feeling that f/1.2 images will become pretty nice with post processing:
1. raise black spot from default value.
2. in PhotoShop adjust local contrast with USM (15%, 40px or thereabouts)
3. Adjust RAW software saturation slider [need to find it first, using temporarily other RAW software since Apple haven't added support for A7] - this might not be even needed, at least Zeiss lenses give rich saturation as long as exposure is right and blackspot adjusted correctly.

#12. Rokkor 58/1.2@f/1.2, 1/100s, ISO 200

#13. Rokkor 58/1.2@f/1.2, 1/100s, ISO

#14. Rokkor 58/1.2@f/1.2, 1/100s, ISO 160

#15. Rokkor 58/1.2@f/1.2, 1/125s, ISO 100 - at large distances the subject isolation isn't as great as I would have wished for - unlike Zeiss Planar 1.4/50 (whatever version) Rokkor has been optimized to close distance shooting - hopefully FD 50/1.2L is better in this (I have seen samples indicating that)
BTW. Funny thing about this image: I had focus peaking on even it makes focusing more difficult, but just wanted to understand how it works. And according to it the building was in focus. Can't understand how video guys can use focus peaking, maybe implementation is better on video cameras or there is adjust-ability how it works.

#16. Rokkor 58/1.2@f/1.2, 1/100s, ISO 400

#17. Rokkor 58/1.2@f/1.2, 1/80s, ISO 100 - I liked very much how well Rokkor did this quite challenging background (of course it was quite easy in that sense it's so blurred)

#18. Rokkor 58/1.2@f/1.2, 1/100s, ISO 200

#19. Rokkor 58/1.2@f/1.2, 1/100s, ISO 250

Here are two shots I captured with my a7 and Zeiss 50's via Metabones adapter (Mk III). These are also the first photo's I've shared here. I hope to get some more up here after the new year when I come back from being on holiday. The second photo was shot landscape and cropped for portrait. Was lucky to capture the shot either way.

Samuli

for subject isolation at a distance the rokkor won't be near as good as the zeiss 50/1.4 because of the spherical aberration profile (stopping down to f/2 might change this comparison), but if your rokkor isn't MUCH sharper at infinity than it is up close there is something wrong with it.

I love sets like this.

In which our friends/partners agree to something such as a nice walk outside at night, and wind up having to stand for us as we fiddle with lenses.

Here's to them, and thanks for putting up with it!

Heh, my girlfriend often joins me on these adventures. Usually she is treated with a meal at the end of the journey.
