I recently came across these 6 videos about the Valles Caldera in the Jemez Mountains.
Apparently a local volcano blew up twice about 1.6 and 1.2 million years ago.
The resulting prototype caldera gave its name to all calderas on the planet.
Whereas Mount St. Helens ejected 1 cubic kilometer of debris into the air,
the local super volcano ejected about 350 times that much.

Now some local pictures I took recently around the Los Alamos area that was created by those events.
Otowi Mesa and Peak, as seen from White Rock, are in the right of the image.

one can see the Pumice layers further down.
Here is a close-up view.
The white Pumice at the lower part of the other side of the road was deposited 1.6 million years ago.
The yellowish material at the top was ejected 1.2 million years ago.
According to the references above the Pumice there was hot enough to melt and eventually resulted in that stone.
