Oh and waaay too late with the lens advice ! I feel like I'm back with Pentax again when I could adapt many lenses to PK.
Ordered a Zeiss 100/2 yesterday and the Contax N 70-200/3.5-4.5, in absolutely 'As New' condition, today (can't believe it's so small .. and the non-AF adapter so expensive. If you want an AF adapter for CN they now make one in China, a snip at US$549) !
Zeiss FE Vario-Tessar 24-70/4 - big disappointment.I dont like it's performance at 24mm - soft corners even stopped to f11 and pronounced barrel distortion (still vivible at 28mm).But what I don't like most it's lack of microcontrast throughout the zoom range.This lens does not deserve Zeiss name and price premium.It should have costed 500 Euro max and be branded just Sony.Vario-Sonnar 35-70/3.5 C/Y and Distagon 25/2.8 C/Y is a much better option.
All the pictures below were sharpened 50% with cranked up vibrance + 15 and +15 clarity and 60% highlights decreas in LR5.4 to make them look more Zeissy At 24mm,28mm and 35mm barrel distortion was corrected.All taken at f8.

Charles; agree on uniqness of rendering styles. Unfortunatelly that's the exact reason many have growing collection of 50mm lenses. But again, it's a hobby

I pretty much increase the vibrance, contrast, and the saturation with my Minolta CLE 40mm f2 M-Rokkor, Leica R, and Contax (C/Y) 21mm f2.8 Zeiss Distagon lenses for my RAW A7r files. I almost always crank then up to close to what you have indicated.
