When paired with an A7R variant, the 100-400GM turns into a very nice "macro" lens! Unfortunately, animal EyeAF let me down this time, guess they haven't programmed it for compound eyes yet
The 100-400mm GM is a fantastic lens - no question!
I am not sure though, if this photo really shows it‘s strength in an adequate way.
Perhaps you used a very high iso number, or the lighting conditions were really bad, or a combination of all the factors together.
The result looks not so nice, very strange bokeh for my taste, and a lot of noise there.
Otherwise, as I said , the lens is for sure capable of acting as a semi-macro do it all lens in a way...

I don't think so. I used Luminar 3 to process these images. I normally use Capture One. Here is the same image with a slight crop and only the shadows lifted a little. First in Luminar and second in Capture One. Capture One does add a little default sharpening.
