That's a wonderful photo, really nice composition and light, so full of little details but they don't distract. I have been trying to weigh up buying the 24-70GM and that's a good advert for how well it renders fine details.
May I ask where in Scotland it was? I didn't realise there were such rocks there.
Also what focal length was it taken at - was it cropped or a pano?

I did a double-take when I saw this because she looks like Natalie Wood!
I could see the resemblance after you mentioned it. Thank you!

I made a few panos here and posted a similar one previously. For this one I waited until the steam/smoke came out of both Bromo in the foreground and Semeru in the back. However, when I stitched the images together it shows a severe distortion and gaps in both lower corners. Because of that I edited another pano that I ended up posting but without any steam activities from both send-active craters. I did some editing and fixed the problem yesterday and now here is the pano that I intended to post. They are similar and this one is a tad wider. Thank you!

Wow! Stunning! Just an amazing image and composition!
Joshua - is that entire area under cloud cover an enormous caldera with smaller calderas within?
Great shot Joshua !
The horizon is a bit disturbing....
Thank you, Werner. The horizon is what it is. It shows a little bit of bulge in the center since the bulge is real. It is more noticeable because of the pano. The center area has been pushed upwards for many, many thousands of years due to the upward movement of the magma chamber underneath. Even the plateau to the left is tilted upwards towards the center.
The wave, it is! Well captured, Werner!

Thank you, Stott! Yes, that is cloud or thick fog that started accumulating in the evening before as soon as the sun went down. The smallish open caldera where steam comes out is called Bromo and the dormant one to its right side is Mt Batok. The tall shield volcano in the back is Mt. Semeru. And you may be right that those smaller calderas, a few of them are active and spewing gas/steam, are within a humongous caldera that became dormant. The presence the humongous caldera would explain the downward tilt of the horizon at both sides looking into the image. The thick fog is more a weather phenomenon though and not related to the volcanic activities, I believe. The thickness of the fog varies day by day. The following morning it was barely there.

Beautiful images Phillip! Shows that the 16-35 f/4 can punch with the best!
Well I wouldn't go quite as far. Sure it is very handy and a good performer but not quite there with the best lenses. Especially at the long end. I have been lusting after a Loxia 2.8/21 or 2.4/25 for sunstars, flare resistance, handling and sharpness. But I am pretty sure that I will miss the flexibility of the 16-35 once I have one.
