Here 2 images taken in the sandy section of the lowland at Bromo. The thick fog that covered the entire lowland was still partly there that morning. The overview images I posted previously were captured from some place on the ridge in the background.

Thank you, Zorro2016 and yes, you are absolutely correct! That's the way of bird/wildlife photography works. The problem was, at least partly, we didn't see any motmot on our first trip to CR. So, when we encountered the first ones, we got excited and went a little bit overboard trying to capture them. We thought that we just wanted to go home with some motmot images, no matter what. But at the end, we ended up getting better images.

Dave and Hoa, wonderful images from Patagonia. It has been on my radar for a while....

Joshua -- Thanks so much for your congratulations! Truth be told, after helping a bit financially in her freshman year at UC Santa Barbara, Chelsea found ways to secure funding through scholarships, grants and later on fellowships, including a number of years from the Dept of Energy in her post-grad period. She's been a constant source of inspiration and vitality. Pretty every trade for providing her body (fun!) and caring for her through high school (intellectual fun!)! Ha-ha!

More shots, featuring her doctoral advisors/mentors during ceremony and afterward. Never a dull moment or missed opportunity to have fun.

I've got to say, I'm quite delighted with the performance of the Sony a7R2 and 24-105G for low light, fast paced "event" shots. Lots of shots OOF, mostly subject motion blur, but some focus errors probably due to the black robes. I think Canon (probably Nikon too) still has a slight edge here -- at least I've gotten more keepers while bouncing around chasing the action. Still, no disasters, and I shot plenty so there would be more opportunities for success. The outdoor shaded areas were fine. Overall, I'm glad I only took the 24-105G for my lensing, leaving all the other gear home.

24-105G.

Very nice shot!

I'm curious what SF setting you had the lens set for, and what your distance was from the tip (extension tube?). Thanks.

I used zero for the soft focus, I kind of forgot about it being there, and I was at the minimum focal distance.
This has been cropped quite a bit.

Hey Jim, Congrats! Sounds like your daughter's performance far exceeds even the FE 24-105 . . . . You must feel awfully proud.
