I haven't shot sports since I was on the high school newspaper staff in the 70s. Used a Nikon F with a Spiratone 400mm �6.3 lens, manual everything.

Quite an eye-opener, 45 years on, to shoot my grandson playing soccer, with the A7Riii and the 100-400mm. Can't believe how easily it tracks.

FE 100-400mm F4.5-5.6 GM OSS .
Much to my surprise, the FE 100-400 was my preferred lens for Tuscany over the 24-70 which was just a little short. The most useful single focal length for me would be 100mm. My wife shot with the 24-105 and had a much lighter setup and she also used the 100-104mm range a lot. If I could have had only one lens, I would make sure it covered the 100mm sweet spot.
