Samuli Vahonen wrote about C/Y Sonnar 2.8/135 some weeks ago from this thread:
I would never consider this lens for landscapes, but I did enjoy it quite much for my normal boke-shooting, but also in this "application" the CA gets to my nervers (not the focus plane CA, but front/behind magenta/green edges). So one has to choose scenes carefully with this lens. I got the lens during wintertime and I still remember the disappointment.

I think I was too quick to judge Contax/Yashica mount Sonnar T* 2.8/135. I have been now shooting with it few times and I'm pretty happy to results. I used PhotoShop on few images, please read descriptions and do not assume lens itself could produce results like below (few boke images I combined f/8 and f/2.8). All images I used Adobe Camera RAW option to reduce CA (checkbox on lens tab). Hexaconal boke highlights are awful - in many scenes the background boke turns pretty ugly at any other aperture than f/2.8. Wide open boke is always extreme good (personal opinion).

Naturally this is no competition to Carl Zeiss APO-Sonnar T* 2/135 ZE/ZF, what is my usual tool for 135mm focal length - but for price this could be good option to get old Zeiss look to tele images, specially if one is prepared to do some postprocessing as well.

Carl Zeiss Sonnar T* 2.8/135 CY @ f/2.8, 1/800s, ILCE-7 @ ISO 160 - I would have hoped Zeiss would have optimized shorter distances, but they did optimize infinity (as always), I used f/2.8 to blur foreground field more, but it seems focus plane quality is sufficient and shallow DOF gives nice pop to subject (subjective opinion).

Carl Zeiss Sonnar T* 2.8/135 CY @ f/11.0, 1.3s, ILCE-7 @ ISO 200, B+W 58 KSM C-POL MRC

Carl Zeiss Sonnar T* 2.8/135 CY @ f/8.0, 0.3s, ILCE-7 @ ISO 160, B+W 55 CIRCULAR - POL

Carl Zeiss Sonnar T* 2.8/135 CY @ f/2.8, 1/5s, ILCE-7 @ ISO 80, B+W 55 CIRCULAR - POL - NOTICE! PhotoShop used: f/2.8 DOF was not enough and I didn't like the f/8 boke -> I combined f/8 large DOF to f/2.8 smooth boke in PhotoShop.

Carl Zeiss Sonnar T* 2.8/135 CY @ f/8.0, 1/60s, ILCE-7 @ ISO 160, B+W 55 CIRCULAR - POL

Carl Zeiss Sonnar T* 2.8/135 CY @ f/8.0, 1/13s, ILCE-7 @ ISO 160, B+W 55 CIRCULAR - POL - this was to test foreground boke and I like it, specially the edges of foreground object against background.

Carl Zeiss Sonnar T* 2.8/135 CY @ f/2.8, 1/10s, ILCE-7 @ ISO 80, B+W 55 CIRCULAR - POL - NOTICE! PhotoShop used: f/2.8 DOF was not enough and I didn't like the f/8 boke -> I combined f/8 large DOF to f/2.8 smooth boke in PhotoShop.

Carl Zeiss Sonnar T* 2.8/135 CY @ f/2.8, 1/15s, ILCE-7 @ ISO 80, B+W 55 CIRCULAR - POL - NOTICE! PhotoShop used: f/2.8 did not have enough microcontrast on focus plane to make the shot to work -> I combined f/8 large microcontrast to f/2.8 smooth boke in PhotoShop.

I went to the Concours d'Elegance last weekend at Pebble Beach. A lot of beautiful cars and a lot of very bright light. I shot these all with my Sony A7rII and my Leica M 50 f/2 AA. The 50 cron AA did very well controlling CA (and very bright sun with lots of chrome is a torture test), except when you push it beyond its intended use and shorten the MFD with the Hawk's adapter that I have. The more I use this lens, the more I like the bokeh too. Anyway, enough description here are some of my better shots:

Nice shots, Steve!
As it happens, on Saturday, I was invited to an exhibition celebrating 70 years of Ferrari, with a few of their cars. Very different conditions and challenges, and in no way trying to start a pissing contest. Besides, I haven't got a 'Cron 50AA, so an Otus 28 will have to do.

Very cool Phillipe. Yes, Ferrari made a very big deal about their 70th anniversary at the show I was at as well. They had over a 100 vintage cars including a nice Formula 1 race car from the 70s that I think won the circuit one of those years. Absolutely lovely cars and many varieties. A Ferrari was in the final three to win best in show, but as is typical for this group a pre-war car won (a gorgeous 1929 Mercedes). By the way I love your shot and I wish I would have brought my 28 Otus. I took my Leica M 28 lux instead because I was traveling and it is much smaller, but it did mean there was a far bit of CA to clean up in some shots.

Well, I almost bought this one, but then someone suggested the colour wasn't quite right for my skin tone, so I put my checkbook and Montblanc back where they came from. Too bad...
OK, I have to be honest, that one is a reconstuction... so not quite the real thing...

Two with the Canon 300L F4+25mm Tube.

Phillips, in honor of the 70th anniversary here are 5 more Ferrari shots. The first two are with the Leica M 28 lux and the last three are with the 50 cron AA again. The last shot is of the car that was one of the finalist for best in show.

It is so interesting to me--these unsharp, blurry, monlens images capture so much more about what the experience of an evening walk and the experience of golden evening light is like. Very beautiful!
