Did also some front boke experiments with GM85 and FE1.4/35. GM85 results are little weird.
Sony FE 1.4/85 GM @ f/1.7, 1/30s, A7vII @ ISO 100, Carl Zeiss T* POL Filter (circular) 77mm - Rather weird transition to front boke, the DOF seems to extend quite long distance from subjects towards camera quite long distance (like Philippe has been saying) . Also front boke itself looks "little" weird.
Sony Distagon T* 1.4/35 FE @ f/1.4, 1/200s, A7R @ ISO 100, Hoya HD CIR-PL 72mm - Front boke looks OK with FE1.4/35, did took also f/5.6 version, which has both of the trees in focus: f/5.6 version.
Sony FE 1.4/85 GM @ f/1.7, 1/50s, A7vII @ ISO 125, Carl Zeiss T* POL Filter (circular) 77mm - Again GM85 front boke look weird. Also little buzy on the background boke
Sony FE 1.4/85 GM @ f/1.7, 1/80s, A7vII @ ISO 125, Carl Zeiss T* POL Filter (circular) 77mm - Detail shot of the tree above, took full aperture series from this and all of them were rather flat (like this one), generally preferred the f/1.7 version due to abstraction of background.
Super grabs all!
This set taken in Lihue, Kauai in front of the Marriot and Dukes restaurant.
Samuli...the other photog that posts with the FE 50 and GM 85 is Lucinda. Love her cars!! I've been using the FE 50 1.4 for a year now. No doubt my fav 50. But I do miss shooting with the Loxia as well. Between the two for f11 work, I think I prefer the Loxia. Looking at f11 grabs of the FE I always think it just doesn't have that ooomph like the Loxia. But, I can shoot all day @f1.4-2 and nothing can touch it, imo. So...
Curious to see when the FE 35 1.4 arrives Tuesday for a week how quickly I'll live it! Between Joshua, Nehemiah-Derek collaboration, and I remember Bob had one right off the bat, I'm really, really looking forward to shooting it. This will be my first time

Now that you mention; I think FE1.4/35 is similar, I don't enjoy large DOF images as much as I do from 35mm Zeiss lens large DOF images from ZM 2/35, C/Y 2.8/35, ZE 2/35, ZE 1.4/35, C/Y 3.4/35-70@35mm or Loxia 35. But also it does not go totally dull and flat like GM85, it's still usable, but I think I would need to add local contrast on post processing or something in effort to add the "ooomph". The photos I took @ f/11, did not come out totally dull and flat, on this sample image 2560x1600 screen trees did look round (not flat), but shrinrinking image to websize trees are quite flat and not much depth can be observed. I'll need to experiment also large DOF behaviour, as I'm not gonna going to take two 35mm lenses with if I go shooting and there is "risk" of needing to shoot landscapes also. The one f/11 image I have online this far:

I hope you like it, and that you get a copy which doesn't have quality defect.
