On one of our early morning drives we came upon six Rhinos peacefully grazing close to our car for twenty minutes. In a few years, a sight like this may be history as poachers killed more than 800 rhinos in 2014 out of the total rhino population of maybe 5000 animals in the Kruger National Park.
The rhino´s horn is illegally traded and sold mainly to Vietnamese with a persisting belief that the rhino horn can cure cancer.
The last picture shows vultures and a hyena fighting over the remnants of a rhino killed by poachers the same morning.
Spent some time at Gooseberry Falls State Park with the family, lovely sunset that night. I love the colors of winter. This was a 7 handheld images, stitched with Microsoft ICE.
I waded through the snowy forest off the beaten tracts, following the traces of roe-deer .Wise animal lead me away from treacherous cracks in boulders and deep ditches filled with snow.Even the place where it stopped for pee was a good vantage point.Thank you,my deer!

Peire, I'm envious - still no snow here. But at least it has gotten colder, so hopefully we can go ice-skating on some lakes this weekend. Can't wait!

Love the bridge, HelenaN! Between you and Gregg, the CV 50/1.5 looks really great.
We've had some snow here, but it's barely been cold enough to make any ice. We have a small pond in our new backyard that we were hoping to skate on this year, but I'm not sure there's enough ice for an adult to stand on it safely. Such a warm, dry, and cloudy winter over here.

We have (as always) loads of snow and ice up here. Been skating for weeks now. Want me to sent a bunch your way??
Two from Tibet's wild west - Ngari. Four days hard travel from Lhasa, the lower altitude of 3800m is a relief to weary and sick travelers after the 4700-5000m area around Mt Kailash. a7r, #1 is FE55, #2 is CY 21/2.8.
Horses huddle nose astern against the freezing afternoon winds on the golden stubble, Himalayas as backdrop.
The flowering of Tibetan Buddhism started here a millennium ago, little has changed.
