Joshua, the rendering of your PP is absolutely stunning... pity for the size of your posts, would be nice to see a bit bigger
Here, my practice with macro... any critiques and suggestions will be very appreciated. Thanks.
Manuel
Manuel, thanks! I am struggling a bit with the conversion/scaling down of my images. A few times when I tried to post, it got "rejected" with a message that my images were too large. I changed the quality and the compression factor and still. As you could see that the sizes of my images are not consistent lately. I didn't have any issues before...
Anyway, I am posting two more images, a tad larger now, that I hope wouldn't cause any issues being posted. I saw somebody during the reception had a selfie stick. So, I asked the couple to pretend to take their pictures using that and they did a good job doing so. They looked very convincing alright. The second image was more a hi-key rendering of the couple.
Anyway, I think you macro images are great. As you move closer to the target, the background blur would be more pronounced, highlighting the target better. I would suggest to get a higher magnification of your object. I am not an expert in macro, BTW. Just relying on what seems more appealing. Paging Ronny, paging Ronny!

Thanks Joshua... I don't know if it is normal at the beginning, but to take macro shots seems to me very difficult and I had lots of focusing errors... hope to improve with more practice however, this lens is very very good!

Yes, I am aware of that. You may want to consider focus stacking, too. At one time I was into macro but never seriously. That's why I admire Ronny's work since it seemed like he was a critter whisperer. The critters didn't fly away, hop or run away although his lens was practically touching them. Keep up the good work!
Incredible colors! Joshua. No question, Ronny is the king of macro. Here are a couple from the Sony 90mm macro. Sorry, more butterflies. Thanks for looking.
Sample shot of my daughter with the Batis 85 @ f/2.5. She was not in the mood to be photographed. This is with my trust A7 II, as my review A7R II is on its way back. While 24MP is definitely more than enough for my uses, you get spoiled with those 42MP files...especially with great glass. There is just SO much detail. This lens is amazing...so sharp right from wide open and IMO simply draws beautifully. What can I sell...what can I sell...

Jordan I see the A7RII images and am amazed. But then I look at the photograph of your daughter -- nice photograph BTW in spite of her reluctance -- and the 100% crop and think, those 24mp do very well.

In all these years, I've never tried blending images but recently I was reading several articles on photographing the milky way using multiple images. Of course, most describe this blending technique in order to get proper exposure of foreground and background. But I was curious to give it a try so I took an image of this year's Aquatennial fireworks and blended with an image I took of the Milky Way last year in the Badlands. I know many have done this countless times before but it is a first for me.

I love this Bob. Great job ! I'd just lighten the shadows on the tree in the centre as it really jumps out from the rest of the scene.

One more like my last city/sunrise shot, but taken about 5-10 minutes later, when the lights had gone off on the streets and the sky became a nice cyan and pink....plus the buildings reflected more. I am torn between the two shots: I like the night feel of the first one I posted, but the colors here are better, IMO. What do you think?

That's really lovely Joshua, great colours - but I'd like to see the bottom of the dress too, maybe the frame is covering it ?

It's normal Manuel ! Once you start getting flash and stabilisation you'll improve leaps and bounds. You need flash to help you use smaller apertures for DoF, keep shadows out of the frame and keep shutter speeds up, you often need a tripod with a macro close focusing rail to enable you to move in/out by fractions and also focus stack.

Indeed. In case there's confusion, I was talking about selling things to pay for the Batis. I've got this one for a week, but I'm already thinking I want one for my bag.

Wow this is fantastic!! Would love to learn more about how you did this. Absolutely love it!
I ordered the A7RII three times. I got cold feet and cancelled the first order, re-ordered a few days later, cancelled that order a couple of weeks later and then ordered for the third time and the camera arrived yesterday. I sold my A7rM and now there is no going back. I downloaded the manual months ago and knew the features I wanted to try first. First I wanted to set minimum shutter speed for aperture priority and secondly I wanted to set focal length for manual lenses to take advantage of IBIS. That done, here is my first informal portrait using the A7RII with the Carl Zeiss 2.8/35 C/Y.
Dale...incredible portrait! The detail is incredible! What aperture?
Bob...love the BW series with the 25.
