Thanks! Just took delivery of the Batis 85/1.8 for review...glad I'll have one day with it on the A7R II, as I have to send the camera back at the end of the day. A quick test shot at f/1.8. This gon' be good.
In all these years, I've never tried blending images but recently I was reading several articles on photographing the milky way using multiple images. Of course, most describe this blending technique in order to get proper exposure of foreground and background. But I was curious to give it a try so I took an image of this year's Aquatennial fireworks and blended with an image I took of the Milky Way last year in the Badlands. I know many have done this countless times before but it is a first for me.

A7II + Loxia 35/2
Wow, Bob, you hit it out-of-the-park with that one! Awesome!
Thank you both! It's a totally unrealistic scene but I had both images available to give it whirl. It was practice for blending different exposures of the same scene when photographing the milky way. Now I just need to find the right scene . . .

Hmmm...I think it could use a little more pop!
Great image Bob! A lot going on here, but given that it's a fireworks display, it works for me. So you also shot the Milky Way with the Loxia 35? I wondered how that handles astro-photography and CA. Very nice job on the blending btw.

No, I think the Milky Way was shot with a Zeiss ZE . . . either the distagon 21 or the 15. The Fireworks shot is definitely Loxia 35.
One more like my last city/sunrise shot, but taken about 5-10 minutes later, when the lights had gone off on the streets and the sky became a nice cyan and pink....plus the buildings reflected more. I am torn between the two shots: I like the night feel of the first one I posted, but the colors here are better, IMO. What do you think?
Some Batis 85 samples. I've shot with this lens for about 40 minutes, have only taken a handful of frames, none of which are particularly special, but I think I'm in love. This thing is blisteringly sharp, right from f/1.8, even on the A7R II. Very nice bokeh. My favorite lens of all time has been the Fuji 56/1.2. I fear this may dethrone it. I need to start saving....
All of these are at f/1.8.
100% crop (focus is along the left side of the crop...the bottom left of this crop is essentially at the frame edge, and very sharp, on a 42MP body at f/1.8):
Is it just me, Bob, or does the Batis 85 mate better to the A7RII than it did to the A7R? I seem to notice more vibrant colours, and more colour differentiation...
Cracking shots, as ever, BTW...

Well, I never shot the Batis on the A7r only the A7II. But I do love this lens. I'll give you more varied samples to judge. Always interested in your views!
I've a weakness for night shots so my eyes switched-on watching last fantastic cityscape by js426, phuviano, Mike, Chris and Jordan... Well done
Very nice bokeh from Noodlz79 and Gregg (ZM 35 1.4)
Nice to discover René's sensor has also colors
Joshua, the rendering of your PP is absolutely stunning... pity for the size of your posts, would be nice to see a bit bigger
Fred, after so many comments I finally disagree with almost all guys... I'll keep both
Here, my practice with macro... any critiques and suggestions will be very appreciated. Thanks.
