I'm increasingly noticing out my DF's outer AF points suck in low light. They just don't lock well.

I guess it's finally time to learn how to focus and recompose while shooting wide open.

I rarely use outers on my D3s, never mind DF.
At 1.4, nowayjose. I'll use outers on 70-200 or any other 2.8 glass, just never on my wide open primes.

I live on the outer points. Those fat forgiving pixels and amazing AF of the D700 taught me it was okay

Crying ass shame I had to buy a D4 to do what the D700 could do.

n00b question.

how the heck are you guys getting your subjects so big? Is it just all framing? Or are you guys cropping heavily? Every time I incorporate the swirly bokeh my subjects are tiny but if I crop it cuts off the unique look of this lens. I know I've asked this to some folks already but I must be screwing up the technique. I do however, like the look if I zoom it on my ipad or I do a view/magnify in flickr which seems to be how y'all's photos look. Perhaps its my export settings in LR??

Any tips? thx fellow crafters!

I still don’t understand what you mean. We do absolutely NOTHING! just shoot wide open at any distance. Are you, by any chance, asking how we post bigger size images on here...?

Here’s proof that i didn’t crop it. Yes, what you see is the way I framed them.

No. Just limit your export file to 1000-1200 pixels (longest dimension) in LR and just post it here using the upload option. I used to use flickr for posting on here but not anymore. Too much of a hassle.

Nice shot tho!

ahh maybe thats what it is... i'll try just uploading. im also exporting for long edge, 2048. i tried linking in another thread too and it it was small and super pixelated, flickr gives funky options i guess.

After you export, take a look at image EXIF info and see if it exceeds 1MB.
Mine are usually at around 800,000 kb. Or if you don’t want to deal with this, just use the “limit file size to” option in LR. Put 1000 in there and you’re set

I went back and reprocessed some of these from a recent shoot with my new "film" look processing. I'm still liking it

Okay I gave in and bought this lens. Who've I have yet to do fine tune properly, looks like my lens requires somewhere between +14 to +18

Is that normal or shall I exchange for another copy?

This is normal! My D3s and DF both have a +15 adjustment.

A shot from today. This lens continues to amaze me... I’ll post a few more from this mini senior photoshoot.

How's the IQ after fine tuning? If it's great then you're all set. It only becomes an issue when the AFFT required is beyond the scope of the +/-20 adjustment, which you cannot fix. All my lenses need AFFT and they range anywhere from -2 to +18.

I always fine tune every lens. If you shoot it wide open, it makes a significant difference.

As long as the lens can be fine tuned within -20 to +20 on your body to be sharp, it's fine.
