Need some help from the folks who have been using this lens for a while. Do you think below image is sharp enough and inline with what I should be expecting from this lens?
This is with +18 and probably sharpest image I am getting. Is it good enough to keep or I shall exchange it for another copy?

I think you're expecting way too much out of this lens. As you may already know from the major reviews, this lens isn't the sharpest prime Nikon produces. This isn't your typical 85mm f/1.4G or 200mm f/2.0VRII.
To answer your question, yes, that looks pretty sharp to me. (I assume that's a 100% crop?)
Elijah,
I have no intention to challenge sharpness of this lens. It's just that I don't know how sharp it should be to call it a good copy that's why posting a question here. That's all. (And you are right this is 100% crop.)
Mark,
I am not using scientific method per say. I just took pictures as I would normally take and then changing AF Fine tune keeping everything else constant

First, don't take test shots like this. Take real shots. The 58 will always look like sh*t shooting test shots. Try a portait, that will give you a better idea. Second, yes there are bad copies, imo, there are LOTS of bad copies. So don't be hesitant to exchange it. There are several folks who didn't find a good copy until their third lens came in.

If you're worried about sharpness, why do it with a tune? Shoot in live view wide open to determine if the lens is capable of being sharp. THEN start tuning to match.

the light looks very dim. so its giving the affect of the edges softer than they really are. the text looks pretty good..mine kind of looks like that as well in terms of sharpness, i normally bump the sharpness in the camera profile just for my personal taste on jpegs.

Thanks for the feedback. I agree about bad and dim lighting. I got home in evening so just thought of taking quick snaps to check if its good enough. I will do more testing today in better light and then start posting "actual" pictures

Sagar look into the dottune method . I have been pleased with it and its free
Thank you so much! that's looks great. I will try it later today.
For others, don't get so defensive after reading word sharpness in 58mm thread . As I mentioned, I had no intention to return lens because its not sharp. I have seen each and every image in this thread and I know what I am getting into. I just want to make sure my copy is good enough to keep. that's all

Part of the reason it looks soft is because the low contrast the lens has wide open. Add a touch of clarity, contrast and some slight sharpening and it will look great.
You have to be careful though because by doing that your also changing the bokeh. A brush technique works great with this lens to apply selective adjustments to the image.
In my experience, the 58 is an inconsistent focuser. You guys need to strap the camera down and take multiple shots to get an average of where it's hitting, or else tuning will be an exercise in insanity. Hell, that seems to hold true for most lenses I've owned. If I thought they needed a tune, they were just inconsistent and a tune only made things worse.
Edit - My current 85 is the only lens I've ever kept a tune in.
To test for an inconsistent lens; do dot tune, but do it with different subjects in different light.
