What is 'huge'. How many adapters do you think metabones stocks, 1000 maybe 5000?? Is that 'huge' if they sold all of them? You have inside knowledge of how pre orders are going, so maybe you could tell us how many are spoken for already.
And, what was wrong with the sensors in the NEX line of cameras and video cameras? Same exxmor sensors that are superior to Canon crap.

I asked earlier but didnt really get a response: has anyone tried the older 200 f 1.8 lenses on the metabones adapter with a sony camera? Yes the site says it might not work, i am aware, but has anyone actually tried it?
Thanks

You got a respone last time you asked. And you also got one from Metabones website. But I'm sure you will keep on asking until someone tell you AF will work and AF will be very fast and good

I stopped playing on the bleeding edge long ago, 40yrs designing computers; hardware and software, teaches well, spent way to much money doing so.
Having seen pre-production A7 and r images, production D800/E as well, the sensor output is stunning. However you'll not find any of my funds moving until complete testing has been finished and these new 'better than sliced bread' bodies being 'fully' vetted.
I'm not a DR or MP freak, really find the IQ of the 6D/1DX stunning; with the 5D3 just a shade behind and since I'm not a working 'PRO' I'm more than willing to wait for Canon...for awhile.
The high MPs do intrigue tho, the ability to crop 'heavy' is a big deal given my reach 'wheelchair' issues, and if the Sony's have killer LCDs; liveview with all the goodies; peeking, etc. I'll look at them more seriously for 'non action' images.
Quite keen, mesmerized, by flora and their bit-n-pieces, if I could grab my 100L IS macro, one of these lighter bodies with the IQ many think they'll deliver...well they've got my money. If AF, fast AF is preserved with the adapter, huge bonus. A fast 35mm for PJ type shoots...sounds sweet, not to mention city/landscapes...yum.
I can understand the 'wanting now' of these Sony gems, hope they prove such, can't wait to see you devoted Canon glass crazies post some images. Watching I will be, waiting as well, there are enough arrow scars on my back for a lifetime so I'll sit and you all go for it. Make me smile, shoot a flower or it's innards, if they're gems, then I'll bite...in 2015, after v1 firmware has been fixed

Yeah let me ask you, Lars, since you love to "answer" my questions. Have you tried that lens with that adapter? I mean not reading some conjecture off of a website but actually tried it? On the site they don't mention the lens anyway, they just say it might not work with older lens. They never said outright that it wouldn't. I'm simply asking if anyone has any experience with it. I should have put a disclaimer regarding the website info for helpful guys like you.
And I don't expect to have lightning fast AF, just something useable. I realize these cameras are not canon 1D's.

The Metabones site tells us that the Canon EF Lens 85/1.2L (Mk I) works in manual focus mode (only). I expect it will be the same for the 200/1.8L.
I own the 85/1.2L II and 200/1.8L. Chances are about zero that these lenses will get mounted on 'my' A7R, if I by one. Right now, it's about 60-40 that I'll get an A7R.

No I don't have any A7R camera. The website also say it support AF in Canon lenses made after 2006. And no other prime lens this old or even close to that age is supported. And even with the latest Canon lenses that are supported he say this:
Autofocus speed is very slow and inadequate for most moving subjects. The autofocus speed is unfit for professional use for sure, and it would disappoint most enthusiasts.
And this is not just "some website" it's Metabones website that sell and make that adapter.

Ok that's fair, thanks. Well those adapters do work for Sony older nex cameras so I was hoping somebody already tried the pair I'm talking about. I'll have to wait it out I guess. Like you said last time, it should be good enough for portraits and landscapes which is what I normally shoot.

The Sony A7 series was never developed to focus on Sony lenses only. Instead Sony was clever and found a market gap especially in Canon land.
I agree - after reading literally dozens of posts, that seems quite plausible.
If/when Canon brings out a FF body with a sensor to match the Sony sensors (or even one-ups them), where does that leave Sony? (what with that lightning fast AF and the multitude of Sony lenses and accessories).

Not everyone is so keen on the A7r for alt lenses. Check out this thread about selling all your RF lenses since FF mirrorless "doesn't" work with many of them.
I'd say it is a bit of a stretch to think that Sony deliberately developed a camera with functions that would be good for other lens systems. They didn't add anything that makes Canon lenses especially easy to adapt and obviously from the tests so far, RF lenses are hit and miss on the sensor. They certainly know that many people were already adapting lenses for the NEX series, but I think it would be up for debate how much thought they put into alt lens users with the A7(r).

I concur that Sony very probably didn't make any extra effort for the A7 to accomdate any lens ther than its own. That is can work with Canon lenses thanks to Metabones is a windfall for them, as are the sales to rangefinder and Leica R lens owners.
I remember when the NEX line was launched. Litterally for years they were criticized for how few NEX lenses there were.
This time around, no such controversy at all. Yet all they offer at launch time is a kit zoom and a single prime. The difference is the interest of non-native lens owners.
Good marketing, Sony!

Question, I've seen some photos of the a7r + metabones III + zeiss 50mm f/2 makro planar ZE in this expansive thread, but has anyone tried the zeiss 50mm f/1.4 planar ZE and/or the zeiss 135mm f/2 APO Sonnar ZE lenses on the a7r yet?
I ask because I own both canon mount zeiss 50's (MP & P) as well as the 135 APO Sonnar. The 135 is very close to the 55mm otus IQ wise from what I've read (can't recall exactly where I've read that at the moment). Having 60% of my lenses as pure MF only lenses and using katzeye optics focusing screens, I'm really interested in Sony's a7r offering. ...Show more →
I have tried 50MP and the 135 APO Sonnar, not the 50 Planar. Nothing really postworthy, but the images with the 135 look fantastic, even better than on the 5D3. It is very easy to focus and easy to hold, but the size of the lens makes it handle better on the 5D3. I also gave quick tests to the 21mm Distagon, the 35mm 1.4 Distagon, 85mm Planar, the 100mm MP and the 17/24 TSEs. All work very very well. Though I am tempted to pick up something like the 50mm Summilux or Summicron for a smaller travel lens. I think you will be very happy with the IQ.

I have all the lenses you tested (except the 135). Did you test the ZE version or what mount did they have?
p.61 #17 · Sony A7 and A7r Full Frame with Canon Lenses
Lars,
I tested it both handheld as well as tripod mounted. I focusing both using the magnified live view on the LCD and magnfied view and focus peaking through the EVF. They were easy to focus using both methods. The focus peaking worked very well, better than I had expected, nearly as accurate using the magnified view. Also I have tried the camera both with and without the grip. For handheld work the grip is a necessity (at least for me) using the longer ZE lenses. It is not really necessary for tripod stuff.
p.61 #19 · Sony A7 and A7r Full Frame with Canon Lenses
Yeah thanks Ryan for these infos. I've ordered the grip too with my a7r as I allways prefered 1D style body (handling, weight balance, vertical shooting etc).
Can't wait to try this focus peaking, even live view will be new for me, still using my 1DsII :-) Will keep it for AF shooting and when high resolution isn't needed (not my business so, more fun shooting and family).

Ryan -- Even though you say the images aren't "post worthy", I'm sure I'm not alone in wishing to see some of your examples, just from the technical perspective, not necessarily aesthetic.
This thread is basically confirming that for my uses, perhaps the Sony is not the best choice. What I'm finding out is that as a digital back to Canon lenses, it is pretty much a LV or tripod-mounted scenario. Which is fine, but not so much a "run and gun" hand held body. Not with Canon lenses or other brands than Sony/Zeiss. The Sony lenses sound appealing, but limited compared to Canon's range of exotics like TSEs.
It's tempting to get a a7R with a couple Sony/Zeiss lenses and adapter for EOS mounts. But at that point, I really have bought a whole new system, haven't I? Ha-ha! The evil Sony plan becomes clear!
I'll continue to quell my enthusiasm reviewing data and images from the Sony, hoping that Canon announced a higher MP body at an "affordable" price. (I know -- prime sucker, right?)
