That's exactly what I'm looking for, to be used with TS-E, ZE, and Alt lenses, probably exclusively. I have Fujifilm X cameras for the "small stuff", and I'm very happy with them.

Jim -- I'm afraid I would end up loving the IQ too much and want to use it for everything. Then be sad when it doesn't work well documenting my mosquito farm breeding program.
Rick -- The point being that if AF is slow or non-existent, the main use for me would be along the lines of a digital back: a smaller version of a 4x5 body (picture a Graflex press outfit, but small). Unless using Sony AF lenses, most of the spontaneous user functionality will be lost. (And I don't know yet how fast Sony/Zeiss lenses are in the AF department -- as fast as Canon's? Hmm. I sort of doubt that. Well, okay, throw the 85/1.2L out, even the new one!)

I'm pretty sure my next 2 or 3 lenses are going to be native Sony/Zeiss FE. I know I'll end up with a dual system, but at least I can share my EF mount lenses across to the Sony. That means I can build slowly over time as, there's no need to buy any FE lenses right off the bat. I can take some time to see how the system grows.

Tim -- That's the other side of my fear: that I'll end up building a special Sony system. I didn't go too deep before, but bought into M4/3 a bit before deciding against it in general (it was nice to use some FD lenses, too).
I've always wished that Zeiss would follow up on their foray into AF with the Contax N and provide AF and zoom lenses that would work fine on Canon EOS. Lucky for me they never have! I tried several ZE models and was not too thrilled with them, especially at the price. So, you will understand my reluctance to quickly embrace this new wave of superior imaging.
I'm just trying to be happy with my Canon gear -- is that so wrong? Ha-ha!

Whatever you need to do to sleep at night.
I'm not planning on going crazy...keyword is planning. I REALLY like the a7R concept though...so I'm not going to fight it unless it turns out to disappoint.

I have tried 50MP and the 135 APO Sonnar, not the 50 Planar. Nothing really postworthy, but the images with the 135 look fantastic, even better than on the 5D3. It is very easy to focus and easy to hold, but the size of the lens makes it handle better on the 5D3. I also gave quick tests to the 21mm Distagon, the 35mm 1.4 Distagon, 85mm Planar, the 100mm MP and the 17/24 TSEs. All work very very well. Though I am tempted to pick up something like the 50mm Summilux or Summicron for a smaller travel lens. I think you will be very happy with the IQ.
I tested it both handheld as well as tripod mounted. I focusing both using the magnified live view on the LCD and magnfied view and focus peaking through the EVF. They were easy to focus using both methods. The focus peaking worked very well, better than I had expected, nearly as accurate using the magnified view. Also I have tried the camera both with and without the grip. For handheld work the grip is a necessity (at least for me) using the longer ZE lenses. It is not really necessary for tripod stuff.

This is a great news for canon shooters, Ryan. Thanks for posting

In my view that makes the A7R a perfect second body for Canon shooters. For landscape, tilt-siht and wheneever higher resolution is a plus, or when the 5D III fails. Else, such as fast AF required, use 5D III (or 1Dx)

This is the reason I bought the A7r, was to be used mainly tripod mounted, which for me is 90 percent of the time. I use my 5d3 the same way, mostly on a tripod, so the a7r is very good. Is it perfect.....no, but it will work very very well for me.

Yes this is my original plan to get the A7r too. I will have a trip to Japan in the mid of Dec. will use it for low ISO landscape shooting, get the best from its resolution and DR, for iso higher than 400 and quick snap my 1Dx will take care it.

Do they sell the Metabones adapter in Europe? It's way too expensive to order it from the website if living in Sweden. It will cost $ 650-700 after tax, VAT and shipping

The price is $ 790 in US dollars to buy it in that shop and send it to Sweden (shipping 25 euro)
it's exactly the same price as last time I used that shop. But then I bought the Zeiss ZE 50/1,4 lens. And I'm not willing to pay the same price for the Metabones adapter as I paid for the Zeiss ZE lens
