p.10 #1 · Anyone up/in for a "Canon Spring 2013" Thread???

Good Afternoon,

We finally hit warm temps today (+70*F), so the flowers should start pushing on up over the next few days. Great images here from a variety of shooters & their "gears"......keep them coming folks!

Photon (Jess): Fine work with the 70-200mm MkII as a "walk-around"!

Tenn.Jer (Jerry): Don't you just love that 100L...it is my "go-to-after-coffee" lens with that hybrid IS. Really nice images from your neck of the woods...

Robinlee: Talk about detail, contrast, and color...not just another duck...

Prevelige: Welcome to the crew!

I took a short walk into/through my wetlands today, hoping to run into the deer or wild turkeys that are locals now, but not to be found. The wetlands floor is sprouting with new life, another sign that our Spring is indeed here...The inside shot is of my Easter cactus, now in full bloom.

A shot with 5D MkII and 100L Macro.

Regards,

Edd

Now spring is really here - warm and sunny. I spent 25 minutes stalking flowers in the neighborhood, and came home with enough shots to spend more than that time (quickly) editing them. Here's a selection, all done with the 70-200/2.8 IS II.

good stuff

forgot how far ahead it is down there (although seemingly not with heat, it's an insane 83deg today up here! and we just has 22 the other night! WTH! body not adjusting to that sort of nonsense!)

Thanks, skibum; this time of year I've almost walked into trees from peering at the ground so much...

Edd, could you enlighten me about the yellow/brown object in the last frame of your series above? Some kind of bud/bulb? The hemlock needles give a size reference...Regardless, what a cool shape to find just popping out of the ground...

I was in town today and found this ornamental (cherry?) tree, with flowers so bright it hurt my eyes to look straight at it ...

Here are a couple, made with a 200 1.8L and a 12mm extension tube...

no vibrance, no saturation enhancement

sort of "high key", against the bright sky...

Yeah, I have more trouble when the temp shoots up than when it drops. I've developed a tolerance for 80sF, but 90º and humid will always be crazy to me, even though I've now lived the majority of my life in the South (never saw that coming).
Your shots from the UNC campus a few years ago have made me think of sneaking in there with some TSE gear and a tripod.

Jerry: The image is of one of many skunk cabbage plants coming up in the wetlands/bog area in my woodlands. The first part of the plant to appear is the spathe, which is what the photo shows. The spathe is a brownish-purple, shell-like pod with green splotches. It does look "alien" now but later the leaves will emerge, growing out to between two and three feet. The leaves are food for waterfowl and deer, but are toxic to humans. Hope this helps...
Also, nice shooting with the 200 f1.8 on tubes...that is one heck of a lens, for so many reasons!

Regards,

Edd

Ah, skunk cabbage...I remember it from when I lived in Oregon, but have never seen it down here.
Many thanks,
Jerry

24 TS-E II does azaleas. First two with lens tilt, last without, but with downward shift.

I guess your Canadian capo is as tilted and shifted as my lens.

The first shot, I was wanted to see if I can get acceptable IQ when shooting in the evening for an upcoming late afternoon - evening race using my 30D and 300 f/4 IS... so I got this capture at 8:08PM yesterday of the neighbors @ ISO 1600, 1/60, f/4, hand held of course, no flash. Not a crop... and it looks kinda' spring like... so I published it

http://jeffersonposter.smugmug.com/Photography/Something-Different/i-XSQP324/0/XL/Late%20f-4%20shots%20300mm-78-XL.jpg

and another shot of spring... closer shot... also @ f/4 @ 300mm but at ISO 400

I'll play along ... these were all taken in the past week here in central BC. I've been testing out my new 400mm f/2.8L IS II lens (with the 1DMIII) ... the first three are with the 2x III extender and off a monopod. The last one is the bare 400mm lens handheld - but shooting through a bunch of branches, and struggling greatly to get a AF point on his eye long enough to snap this one photo. I can't explain the painterly effect on this one - I've processed it just like any other photo.

At the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library today.

Shooting M1 jpgs with the 100-400L. Pretty nice quality -- I've always avoided jpgs, but they can be very punchy.

Most of my spring shooting has been at the NW School of Wooden Boatbuilding, for Launch Digital Media who is finishing up a new website for the school.
