All these images are upsetting. We are 15-20 degrees below normal now and even still had snow falling this morning. Normally it is in the 50s to low 60's and I'd be riding my motorcycle on days it wasn't raining.
The grass is still brown, there are no buds on the trees, and everything just looks plain dull.

Thanks for the advice.Peter. I need to work on seeing them sooner as they tend to only fly above the river parallel to the bank I am standing on. Maybe if I get one of those disguises they will change direction towrds me.

The same advice works for taking pictures of them too
Too funny Jools!...
Cam, Peter: Thank you...that 400mm f2.8 is a beauty and a beast (mostly beast). The photos coming in really cover the gamut of subjects and styles, which make for great viewing.
Saneproduction: The 200mm f1.8 is in a class of its own; thanks for sharing those images.
Peter: The CGIF are very impressive on my monitor...looks like it just got shot out of a cannon (no pun intended).
Jerry: Good to see you here!
John_T: Beautiful mountain snow scenes, with the zig-zag tracks of the down-hillers.
Jess (Photon): Enjoying the floral images also; great lensmanship
And many thanks to the rest of the posters...much appreciated here, so keep them coming!
I have a couple from today, from both ends of the distance scheme. The first group of Mayflowers that have bloomed were taken with a Voigtländer Braunschweig APO 105mm f4.5 lens, attached to a Canon FD Auto Bellows (coupled to 5DMkII with EdMika FD to EOS adapter). The lens is from the mid 60's, with a near-perfect circular iris. I'll post a photo of the setup if anyone is interested. The purple finch was shot with the EF 500 f4 L (Ver 1), which is a cake-walk compared to shooting with my long FD L manual glass.

I had some fun this weekend with irises from my mother's garden...
All with 100L macro, handheld with elbows braced on the kitchen table ...

(George (AmIgone), that flower stamen macro above is stunningly beautiful )

Good Evening,
I'm enjoying the postings today, while helping a local high school team get a robot ready for a contest this weekend...junior engineers in training!
Kudos to: Jerry (Tenn.Jer) for those iris shots.
Terry (tbartick) for the colorful images of butterflies.
Jim (Gunzorro) for the Yosemite series (thread on "gears & family")...that was a great read!
Peter (PetKal) for always keeping that target (BIF) locked-on for us to see as a "time-space".
And thanks for the kind words Peter, with respect to the purple finch shot. I think a copy of that one is going up in my home....
Got to get back to the other "gears" (and C code, servos, sensors, and such) with the kids, so I hope you all have a great evening!

Thanx gents, glad you like that shot, although I am not too keen on that sorta strong direct light.
However, I am working on something I like better (see below), but haven't been able to get a clear unobstructed shot of her yet, and to fix this in post processing it just ain't worth it. So it is just a conceptual sketch.
