This thread is a welcome change to our never ending winter, thanks for the variety folks. Edd, the background blur of that 400mm is subtle and sweet. Love that look!

Well I can recognize more of the subject matter, for sure
I do wonder, though, in the 2nd picture, why do you shoot the lens wide open at infinity? It's not like there's any DOF to control, given that there's not a cloud to be seen anywhere, nor anything in front of the tower.
Also I think that some PP would do wonders with these pictures. Just my 2c, of course nobody asked me.

love to know what I should do with PP
Well hard to do at midnight on my ancient laptop with a web sized JPG, so who knows how it will turn out. It looks better to me, at least on this laptop. Still doesn't make for a more interesting picture. For that I would probably take the raw file and turn it into BW, looking for a toning that works well for the colors in the picture.
The aforementioned f1.2 picture would probably look good in BW, with some dramatic contrast and I may play with vignetting. Again, I'm off to bed, and in general I absolutely hate processing non-raw files

Went to the beach at Grand Bend on Lake Huron on Good Friday. Nice day! Still a lot of ice in the lake here, though it was clear up in Goderich. I guess it will be good for a dip in a few months.

Robert, a suggestion when it comes to geese shooting: try to position yourself in their flight path and then aim for the head.
