Spent the afternoon printing for a customer, and now have to prepare to play a concert. Still, I made the time to try another approach to shooting irises. Fisheye, hand-held. I thought about getting out a tripod and trying HDR, but there wasn't any tone in the sky whatsoever.
Sort of looks connected to the trees, rather than the ground, hence the caption.

Hey Dazz, I missed your post in my hurry to catch up with this thread. Good shots, and I like your aviator's perspective in your captions.

I've been looking for different things one can do with a 40/2.8 STM, so I decided to try it with a 12mm tube. It did a good job on a flower close up with a different perspective from a 100 macro. Without the tube, I'm OK with the look for an environmental "triplet" portrait. It's far from the silky background bokeh of a 50L, but there's a nice punch to the subject.

Love the colors of this lens, but don't love the lens! Just got it, but it's in my "exit" pile for eBay. I may have to break down one day and buy a used 135/2L.

Norwegian National Day again here yesterday (May 17th). This is probably the most important day of the year in Norway, and for anyone who hasn't experienced one of these it is difficult to describe the scale of the celebration. The day begins with brass bands marching around all the residential areas at 06:30 to wake everyone up, then the flags all go up at around 7am. When i say "all", i mean pretty much every house in the city. There are some wreath laying ceremonies and such after that, and then 2 parades: One comprising all the schools in the city, the second comprising any clubs, societies, unions and social organisations that want to march. After that there are concerts, social gatherings etc well into the evening. Now this probably sounds pretty much like every other national- / independence- / saints- day, but in my (admittedly limited) experience the two things set the Norwegian version apart: The first is the sheer scale of the event, that in a city of around 160k here probably 100k+ people ventured into the city centre at some point yesterday, all dressed up smart and a large proportion in national dress. The second is that there is no military aspect to the day at all.
For us, it is Junior's first year at school, and so her first parade:

She grows fast, for sure. Before long i'm going to need to find a new style of photography. Or perhaps just a new excuse to give her mother whenever i buy lenses...
