I just went through the entire thread and there is such a wealth of talent here. Excellent work everyone! My favourite was taken in the first week of the year. I'm not sure if I should be happy with that or sad.

Tough to compete with the awesome images posted so far. Top notch quality. I'll post an image from early in 2012 that I was pretty excited to get. Best of the season to all! http://i418.photobucket.com/albums/pp263/kccollett/IMG_10852.jpg

The Hawaiian I'Iwi, unfortunately a large crop. The Park Service requires you to stay on the marked trail and these birds are quite small. Anyway I went to the area three times to try to get some shots and I guess I need a significantly a longer lens.
Wow, this thread is full of wall hangers. I don't really shoot wildlife, especially birds, but yesterday as I was sitting at my computer I looked out my window and this guy was looking back. My camera bag was at my side and I moved ever so slowly to bring up my D300 for a couple of shots. I guess it's OK for being shot through venetian blinds and dirty glass. This is my best (and only) bird shot of 2012.
Here's one of my best for the year. I shot this guy for a while before realizing that he really wasn't even twitching...So I closed down the aperture and tried a slow shutter speed...this was the best of around 50 or 60 shots. I like how it turned out. Taken with a 1dIII and a 400mm 5.6.
What stunning images I'm not sure I have any best shots compared to these , but I do have some firsts.
This shot is the first time I was ever able to get close enough to these anhingas to take a shot with the 300mm.
I would like to say thank you to everyone on this forum. I have learned so much from you all. Thank you for your help , support and encouragement. You have been so very kind to me and I am truly grateful.
