Helena, what a lovely set - thanks and keep them coming! I particularly enjoyed the wire fence and sun low on the horizon & the smokestack image.
RX1 owners, could you comment on the overall look you are getting from your cameras and suggest what camera/lens combos other than the RX1 which have delivered similar rendering for you? Rangefinder, full frame DLSR, any system really.

Michael, I am absolutely loving the natural light, low light shots of the RX1. The colours, out of camera, are just gorgeous for me. The bokeh is dreamy smooth and the sharpness is cutable.
See 3 shots below that I took yesterday:
Again, full sized JPG's are available to download if anyone wishes to, just from that RX1 Gallery.

Great shots everyone! Just received the RX 1, on Friday, and I love the ease and how much fun it is to use this cam IQ is amazing too Just a few shots over the weekend PP'd in LR 4.3.

Simon, beautiful cat shots!
Congrats Charles and nice set!
I like the portrait of your wife.
Nice to see the polar opposites of Aussie summer and Nordic winter at the same time.
The RX1 is an incredible portrait camera/lens combo. The combination of smooth bokeh, sharpness wide open, and Zeiss colors and microcontrast reminds me of my favorite portrait lens, the Contax N 85/1.4. The sensor is like my D800, lots of DR, great high ISO, low noise. This camera reminds me of the shots I have seen with Contax N1 and N85/1.4 of course with different focal length.
Gives my D800E and 35/2 a run for it's $.

Thank you everyone! I really enjoy shooting with RX1 so far and don't miss having a VF as much as I thought I would, but I think I may buy the EVF later some time.
Btw. the smokestack belongs to a heating plant so it's just steam. Great subject on cold days.
Simon, your cat looks really exotic, like a small lioness.
Charles, very nice set, especially the first two!

Slightly OT, which 35/2 Wayne?
I really love the look the RX1 is producing. I'm also considering against better judgement upgrading my very aged DSLR (essentially starting anew) but aside from wanting one with one of these newer Sony sensors (meaning D600, D800, or A99) I've not got hard and fast preferences... although I am leaning to AF lenses at this point. Alt / alt-manual glass down the road, sure.
If I could find a 35 and 85 either Nikon or Sony platforms that produced similar looks to the RX1 I'd be delighted.

The Zeiss 35/1.4 ZF.2 is strongly related to the 35/2 in the RX1, look-wise, but not quite the same. It is huge in comparison though.
Indeed. I've been enjoying your images and many others in the 109 pages so far found in the 35/1.4 thread. If I were not already using manual focus ZM lenses elsewhere I'd immediately consider the ZF35/1.4 but my inclination is to prefer autofocus 35mm and 85mm primes at this time, although I'm still thinking this through.

Welcome
I was thinking for a Sony sensor based DSLR - namely D600, D800, or A99. Not having followed lenses for DSLRs, ever, I'm simply holding up the RX1 as an example of what I like and I like the RX1's rendering more than my ZM35/2.
Could there be older, slower AF lenses that might have some similar characteristics?

We need more images from the new Sigma (and maybe a new 35 mm rendering thread ?)
Lloyd Chambers has a few real world samples with the Sigma up in his DAP section. The bokeh was ugly and distracting to me. Yet he writes in the conclusion that the bokeh is very pleasing and more Zeiss-like than Canon-like. I Thought "WTF ?"

Edwin, Wayne and Helena, thank you
Edwin, I am sure you will not be disappointed with the RX 1
Wayne, thank you... and yes the warm weather in Oz, and looking at all the snow scenes from the other side of the hemisphere is amazing. The RX 1 lens/cam is an amazing combo. I am not still not to sure which camera combo it reminds me of, but it is unique, fun and amazing high ISO performance. For certain portraits my favorite combo is still the M9 and 50 Nocti f/1.0, but the RX 1, will be always be with me too now

There aren't many Sony or Nikon AF 35/1.4 or 35/2 lenses in existence, period. The Nikon 35/2 lenses have very different boke. The AF 35/1.4 is very good, but doesn't render like Zeiss lenses. There is only one Sony AF 35/1.4, and it has a controversial image quality, also not Zeiss-like. The only way to get an AF lens which renders Zeiss-like might be to get one of the AF Zeiss zooms, i.e. max f/2.8... FWIW, the Canon 35L is more like the Nikon 35/1.4G than like Zeiss lenses, although I slightly prefer the Nikon in this case, for its colour and nano-coating.

A couple more from this evening, thought I'd give you a break from Marcus and show you some of Perth, the first 3 are roughly the same shot, just at different times:
These two are amazing, it was almost too dark to see:
I took almost identical shots, at the same aperture, of each of these, using my 5D Mark III with the 16-35 II lens @ 35mm. I'll put them up tomorrow, if anyone's interested.

ZF 35/2 which does not have bokeh like RX1.
Closest is ZF.2 35/1.4 on Nikon and either ZF.2 35/1.4, CY 35/1.4, on Canon.
Only AF option with Zeiss color and microcontrast would be the slower zoom Contax N 24-85 adapted for Canon.
