I also like the shot, but this one also has the color shift problem Morty showed . Purple edges, yellow center.
Maybe it's not because of a faulty camera (I'm seeing it in more shots from different people), but just the way the sensor/lens combo behaves in difficult light.

Congrats, Charles! And fine pics, too!
I could get my hands on a RX-1 with CF to play with briefly, and I am still on the fence. At short to mid range, and in darkness, it is clearly superlative. The handling is not so far feeling very comfortable, but this coul change over time. Where I am at is comparing infinity pics from it and from my NEX 7 + Elmar 24. My taste has migrated from the Zeiss contrast-rich look to the Leica, and my PP weaknesses aren't helping me get what I really want from the RX1 yet.

Thank you Philippe It is a very neat cam, and I am enjoying the ergonomics of it. Many of the early issues with the M9 with WA's, is relevant to the RX 1. The magenta/cyan edges, I have not noticed yet, but I have not taken any beach shots yet. I agree with you, I prefer the Leica look now, but I do love the Zeiss Sonnar design, which adds a lot more character to the lens.
Simon, congrats! Very nice timed series
Hooligan, beautiful Christmas capture.

I think this is something one have to live with and that it will only be a problem in low light and/or strange lighting. I'll just make some Cornerfix profiles to apply whenever it's needed.

You really should shoot RAW then, because the JPG:s are not nearly as sharp and detailed. Maybe that's why some people claim that it's not that good at infinity. The only shot I have at large enough distance (300 meters) was surprisingly sharp for being wide open, so I'm not worried.

Okay, here are two edited photo's. One's taken with a Canon 5D Mark III with a 16-35mm Mark II lens at 35mm and the other taken with the Sony RX1. Aperture is similar (not identical), ISO identical, exposure slightly different.
I have edited them, colour, WB, Saturation, minor sharpening, crop to look as similar to each other as possible. I've done this deliberately and probably upset some of you who want to see OOC comparison, but let's start here. I know it's not scientific!

Which one's which? Don't cheat, the EXIF's probably intact, just look by eye alone and play the game.

Haha, please note - I honestly didn't try to make one better than the other, just as close as each other by eye (largely at 'fit' size). I've made my point to myself
I have more, by the way, if requested - but no more tonight, Dexter and Homeland beckon!

Funny, isn't it - I prefer the RX1 version
When I open both in different browser tabs en switch between them... the Canon shot seems to have better clarity. It looks like the RX1 shot has a slight color cast.
How much time was there between these 2 shots? The sky at the top is purple on the RX1 shot, while it's blue on the Canon shot.

To be honest, the thing that surprised me was how close the two shots were. One was a $3000 Sony and the other was Canon DSLR combination worth around $5500 (maybe more, I can't recall). One's relatively small and the other isn't.
The exercise was worth it for me. Thanks for playing.

I wonder how much of that is down to raw support issues possibly. Or are you seeing it in jpg too?
My shot was a jpg in case I didn't mention. She puts a lot of hard work into Xmas whereas I'm a cynic. So the least I can do is make a nice tree shot.
I'm finally getting over this cold, maybe, so will have more time for out and about
I envy yours shots but they certainly show your dedication....brrrrr..
