You might be surprised how well a Voigtlander OVF works on the RX1 with center point AF. I'm not really finding that I miss many more shots than with my X100 or X100s, since it only has vertical parallax, and no horizontal parallax. The RX1 AF isn't the fastest, but it nearly always locks on.

It's not really the functionality of such a set up that bothers me, rather it's the less than graceful implementation. Add on viewfinders just look so cumbersome and are quite fragile in many cases. The X100's built in viewfinder simply is wonderful. I've gone to shooting a Sigma DP2M in many cases and while I LOVE the IQ you can get off of a Foveon sensor, the loss of the X100's viewfinder is a bitter pill to swallow sometimes.

I love my RX1 more than any camera I have ever used. However, in a future version I'd really like a built-in VF. Tiltable screen would be nice too.

Some more photos from the ecological farm. What a fun day it was (and perfect light for this kind of photography)! Hope he will need more photos later some time, so I get to go back.

The farm itself (the main house looks a bit scruffy because it's being renovated):

Some motion blur, but the protective mother started to become aggressive, so this is all I managed to get, but it's so cute that I have kept it anyway :

Well, some of you know I had a dust spot on my RX1 sensor and decided to send it in to Sony for warranty repair. I sent it to Sony on 5/22 and it arrived on 5/24 just before the Memorial Day Holiday. I received notice on 5/24 from the Loredo, TX repair center that they received it. On 5/28 I received notice that it was in the hands of a technician. On 5/31, I received notice that the warranty repair work was completed and the camera is being shipped back to me. The RX1 is due to arrive tomorrow. Assuming the sensor is now clean, the whole process, with shipping is taking less than two weeks. Not too bad!

Helena, that's a fantastic series. Are you mostly using AF or MF with the RX1? If AF, what settings are you finding are working well for you?

I would normally agree, but I actually think the camera looks and feels better with the Voigtlander OVF attached, it is really solid, and the camera still fits in my smallest bag. I'd probably leave the OVF on there even if I didn't use it, because it looks great.

I used to criticize the lack of a built in viewfinder and tilt screen, but, now that I have the camera, I understand why Sony did it this way. Unlike most mirrorless cameras, where the sensor is basically in the middle of the camera, the RX1's sensor is all the way at the back, and there isn't a lot of extra space around the lens mount, because the lens is so big internally, so I think either a tilt LCD or built-in EVF would add quite a bit of size to the camera. I don't really mind the modular nature of the camera, which surprises me.

Agree with you on how how well intergrated the X100(s) VF is, but I actually think external ones look pretty cool. Granted they do increase bulk, and it is frustrating having to pay for something that we all probably wish was built in, but on the RX1, in particular, I just think it adds a bit of coolness and makes it look rather unique.

Tried one with my DP2m and while it again looked cool (I rather love the utilitarian purposefulness of the Sigma brick design) for the way I shoot that camera it didn't really prove that handy as I'm almost always using it on a tripod (get so spoiled by its results at base ISO and stable that handheld higher ISO shots just dont measure up)

P.F., thank you!

Bob, that's great if true! Hope so.

alwang, thank you! I have used the flexible spot AF for everything so far (except some night time shots on a tripod) and have found that it works really well. It's not very fast, but reliable. On the whole day on the farm, for example, there wasn't a single mis-focused shot.

Ryan, thank you very much!

Ryan, very nice light and atmosphere in those! I like #3 and 4 the most.

We have some amazing light and clouds this afternoon/evening. I have already been out for a long walk with the camera, but feel tempted to go out again.

Personally, I don't mind the bulk or the look so much. What I do mind is the constant worry about losing a ~$500 accessory. I am simply too paranoid about that, and it'd be a constant worry for me as it was on the E-P3 when I had one. If the RX1's EVF had some kind of locking mechanism, I'd feel a lot better about it.

So the X100s is a bit of a compromise in terms of IQ but a big win in terms of comfort and price. That said, I love the RX1's image quality and still kind of pine for one from time to time. I love the images in this thread!

I cut out a couple of tiny strips from a business card and put them under the OVF's shoe, so my Voigtlander OVF is super solid and stuck in the hotshoe. I can swing the camera around by holding the OVF, it is stuck in there so well (I obviously don't plan on removing it very often.)

Love this shot of Mercer's grave. All those wonderful songs. It's kind of sad, though, that Harold Arlen's grave is almost completely unadorned, just a simple marker for him and his wife. The guy who wrote the music deserves a bench, too.

An articulating or at least tilting touchscreen would make the camera almost perfect for me. (I miss the ability to rapidly set the focus or magnification point from my E-M5's touchscreen)

Thanks Helena! I probably will. Have not had time to process any.
Been working and seeing/helping my parents on the weekends.
I like your latest set from the Eco farm. Your right, the animals look very happy.
Always nice to see the moms taking care of their young.
