I cut out a couple of tiny strips from a business card and put them under the OVF's shoe, so my Voigtlander OVF is super solid and stuck in the hotshoe. I can swing the camera around by holding the OVF, it is stuck in there so well (I obviously don't plan on removing it very often.)
Good idea. Probably wouldn't work with the EVF though? I wonder if it could be taped on somehow.

That rubber band idea looks similar in concept with my business card trick. I think my idea would also work with the EVF, since it doesn't get in the way of the contacts, but I'm not sure. My EVF actually stuck in pretty solidly.

The idea is the same; find a way to increase the friction between the viewfinder and the hot shoe. A rubber band is reliable and won't get wet or take up moisture, a couple of small paper pieces are easy to carry in the bag somewhere for replacement if necessary. You don't have a clip where we can see you swinging your RX1 around holding it by the finder?
As this is the image thread I just add a random recent image:
Yes, I waited for somebody coming running across the frame but the couple above where the only ones walking through the water. This was at a mall a day which was sunny 10 minute earlier.

Nice shot. It was kind of the couple to use a red umbrella for your shot.

I lack the courage even to lift the little guy out of the bag by grabbing the finder, lol. I am trialling the Wayne Seltzer (tm) method of never removing the EVF, shall report back in due course.
Like the casual style of the walking couple, Jonas, makes the image IMO. Storm brought them closer together too, umbrellas are sexist devices towards men's shoulders.

Yep, I'm pretty much leaving my EVF glued to the top as I don't want to find out if it loosens through continuous on/ off wear.
On a side note, it sure would have been nice if Sony had included a PC terminal on the front or side of the body. Not that I use this camera much with strobes but if I wanted/ needed to, doing so with the EVF attached is problematic.

I should mention that I'm talking about the Voigtlander OVF. I wouldn't swing the camera around by the EVF!
I tried the rubberband thing with the OVF, but it keeps snapping, and the clearance thing isn't there. I also tried laminating my business card, to protect from water, but it's too slippery now. I guess I keep using the business card until I think of something better.

Thanks everyone for the kind words and likes! I haven't heard from the farmer yet, but I hope he is pleased with the shots.
-Ryan, nice railroad set, especially #2 (nice look and mood)!
-Jonas, good one! The red umbrella makes the shot for me, and the heavy rain of course.
-Bob, great that you got the camera back so soon and that it appears to be fixed! Interesting effect with the lettering.

The light was great a couple of days ago so I took an evening walk:

Jonas - nice shot in the rain....think B/W would look great as well
Bob - impressive turnaround. The colored letters really pop!
Helena - very nice landscape, lighting does look great
tulaev - excellent shots...especially number 1

Just been seeing too many beautiful images in this thread so I had to break down and finally purchase the RX1. Going to the Caribbean next week to celebrate a family wedding so figured what better occasion than that to justify such a purchase.
Being its a vacation rather than a photo trip, I want something easy to carry, ie; not DSLR backpack etc, but also given I'll be going to some beautiful islands I do want something that has some serious IQ, and also that can deliver high ISO for handheld shooting during some nights on the towns.
Should pair nicely with my RX100 as they share a battery and provide a little backup.
Torn on taking a DP Merrill as well, given the IQ is amazing, but I don't know if it really will be the type of trip where I'm going to be shooting during good light, carrying a mini tripod etc.
RX1 (while no AF speed demon) certainly should excel were the DP2m doesn't, namely high iso natural light shooting.

Jeff, stick this thing on auto iso and let it amaze you. I have never used a camera that I can let loose like this on auto iso. I have never been so satisfied with iso 3200 shots
AF outdoors isn't OMD fast, but you won't incur a single problem. Shooting at night/dim conditions is the only place you will run into some slight AF issues

Congrats! Having owned and used both the DP1 and DP2 Merrills before my RX1 purchase, I found the Merrill's actually provided nothing I could not get from the RX1 - and that includes ultimate detail and IQ at base ISO with landscape type stuff. That finding actually surprised me. What I found was that RX1 images, with proper processing and sharpening (and RX1 images will take a lot of sharpening), actually contains a little more detail and can be re-sized and printed to larger sizes than what I could get out of the Merrill's. Both my Merrill's have been sold since getting the RX1.
