Thanks Joan!
Nice color in the Chihuly glass! His chandeliers must be amazing to see in person and illuminated in the dark.
Glass more expensive than Zeiss!

Ron, the photo of the tree roots is beautiful. Really composition and nice processing. I also like the set of your evening with friends and especially the photos from Toronto. Charles, more great photos from Springbrook! Really nice mood in the last one. mnakhla, really enjoy your varied set with people and food photos, esp. #4-6. Joe, nice composition and wonderful colors in the Daytona beach photo. Joan, pleasant sweeping lines in your capture of the crater. Would love to see that in real life too. Darrell, very nice set on this page! I particularly like #4.
Last week we visited Lofoten in northern Norway and it was amazing! I have been there before in summer, but seeing it in winter was special. We were lucky with the weather and light and even got to see Aurora Borealis one evening (I used 5D for those). You can sometimes see the northern lights in Trondheim too, but it was nice to get to view it in such beautiful surroundings.
Here are a few shots (I'll post more when I have had time to process them):

Thank you both!
Btw. I kind of regret that I used a polarizer, because in many of my shots one side of the sky is much darker than the other. It ruined some of my panoramas, but hopefully I can fix it with post processing. I really should have thought about this before.
That's not the RX1's fault of course! I'm very happy with how it performed and as always it's a joy to work with the files.

Helena, nice set from Lofoten! Really sharp detail in the far distance. Too bad you didn't get to sneak out early in the morning to take some shots when the light was nicer.
I really like your Aurora shot from there on your flickr page. Hope you post that one on FM in one of the zeiss threads since it was with 5d!
Which polarizer are you using? I have used my B&W polarizer on my RX1 and it doesn't seem to vignette like the one you have the few times I have used it.

Thank you Wayne! It's a Sigma polarizer which I bought because it's the only one of the right size that I could find here in Norway on a short notice. I think I'm going to buy one from B+W instead even if I have to order from abroad. Is yours extra thin? I wonder how come it doesn't vignette as much as mine.
I could have sneaked out early, but never got around to it. At the time it didn't feel worth it. I have some shots from around sunset though, maybe I'll post them later.
Based on what I have posted so far in this thread one may get the impression that I'm into landscapes, but in reality I prefer to photograph people in their surroundings, rusty old cars/boats/trains, abandoned houses, urban details and things like that. When the light is right I can't resist a pretty scene though and there's much of that in winter.
(Here, here, here and here are examples of the kind of photography I enjoy the most.)

A mediocre polarizer will indeed cause vignetting, but: whatever polarizer you use on a wideangle lens will cause uneven exposure in skies from time to time. That's the reason why I hardly use them.
The only times I do use them is when really wanting to remove reflections (because it's the only tool that will help).

I got the B&W slim MRC 49mm circ polarizer for myv RX1.
Will do more vignetting testing soon. So far it has been excellent.
Although I like a lot of types of photography I have been shooting landscapes predominantly except with the RX1 I have been doing more cityscape/street shooting due to it being so much more discreet than my dslrs.
I understand having to balance your photography time along with time with your boyfriend on a trip like this.
My landscape photography pursuits and passions have led me down a fanatical and selfish road that even my girlfriend who is a photgrapher gets fed up with.
I decide to go on many of my California photo trips at the last minute based on the latest weather predictions and seaonal conditions and usually leave at 2am in the morning to get there before sunrise, shoot all day through sunset till dark and then either drive home or stay a night and get up early again the next morning and repeat.
I usually have preplanned itenerary in my head of the places and times of day I want to hit ahead of time but that usually changes depending on lighting and weather conditions that day. Usually I want to stay longer in places working the scene or waiting for the optimum lighting orvweather condition to materialize and thus hit less places where as my girlfriend wants to take less time and hit more places. There have been times like in Denali national park wanting to get the perfect reflection shot of Denali in Wonder lake in the next 10 minutes before clouds would cover it, where concerns or attention to others with me go right out the window as I am selfishly fixated on getting the shot. I am trying to correct this and be more reasonable. Balance grasshopper!

I am so lucky as my partner is as bad as me with lingering around the better sites, lol. We get tired at the same rate.
Helena, your Lofoten images did not lose much to the Sigma pol filter in my opinion...only the first is an issue at all, and only picky photographers notice or care after a little PP. I'd say the pol did a great job of the reflections on the body of water in #1, and also the snow which can very hard to retain detail in.
This might sound strange but the RX1 seems to have a casual sharpness which is not obvious all the time, as though it's not the main feature of the lens...I looked at these images on a work monitor (notoriously bad) after reading Wayne remarking they had great detail and they looked quite the opposite to me...back here on a photo standard screen and of course yes they are really good, with great luminosity from the super DR.
I do think Zeiss having prototypes of the camera helped in lens design...they are doing the same with the 'FF NEX' apparently for the first batch for that one, so the rumour goes.

joanlvh - great lightbulb... looks like fans. Interesting fountain of conception.
Thanks Sebboh
Darrell - great detail
Thanks Charles, great city shots, is the one with the fountains your back yard?
Helena - all your shots are so crisp and with such style, I really enjoy seeing them
Still working through a few from my Carribean trip:

Tom, beautiful shots from Aruba! Hope to see more.
Helena, I am big fan of your landscapes here and hope to see more along with the city shots you prefer!

Thanks everyone!
teseg, those are lovely! Make me want to go there right away.
Wayne, thank you for for sharing your landscape photography "habits"! Maybe I worry too much about what people think. My boyfriend never complains or looks bored, so I could probably take a little more time with my photos without causing problems. I'll give it a try the next time we go somewhere.
Thanks also for the filter information. With the slim polarizer you mention, can you still mount the cheap eBay hood?
Here are a few "not landscapes" from an over-night visit in Sweden to pick up my new passport (the specks in the first one are snow flakes), but when I can find the time I'll post process some more photos from Lofoten.

Wow, great set Helena! That VW bug looks like it has seen a lot of good times and full of a lot of old stories! Love the paint job and "ornaments" from the old skis and leather luggage to the wooden wine/whiskey barrel on the back! I want to borrow that car for my next ski trip!
Like the light and B&W PP in last image.

Thank you very much Wayne! I'm not saying that it's a great shot or anything, but the last one is an example of what I really enjoy to photograph; when light transforms an everyday scene into something interesting.
Sorry to ask again, but with the slim polarizer you mentioned, can you still mount the cheap eBay hood?

Sorry, forgot to respond to that question. No it unfortunately doesn't allow hood to fit on with polarizer since it doesn't have threads on front side. You may try the kaesmann slim style polarizer that Phillip just mentioned in the other RX1 thread here in alt forum. It is slim but has threads on both sides. I usually have gotten the slim MRC polarizers with no threads on front side as I am worried about the extra threaded part on the front sticking out some and causing vignetting. I wonder even if you use a polarizer with threads and put the lens hood on front whether you will get some vignetting. I usually use step up rings to avoid this and bought a step up ring to allow use of my landscape filter rig. I still need to play with that to see if it works in case I want to use some Grads and my reverse grad filters.
I just tried a blank wall at f2 shot with my cheap hood on and i think I see extra vignetting caused by the hood.
Does that happen with your copy of the hood? Maybe the hood and not the polarizer was causing the vignetting in your Lofoten shots? Or maybe the combination Ugh, I need to do some more testing in the field.
So far this camera/lens has done very well even without a hood shooting into the sun without much loss in contrast.
And that last shot is excellent and yes takes more skill to see and capture and are always the best kind!
