Phil, agree with you about rendering. It makes seemingly mundane subjects interesting. Great colors and detail with the leaf shot.
Joanlvh, I think your dog is preoccupied with those in the next room. When we dog sit our friend's dog, he hates the shutter sound of my old NEX camera. Your dog have any shutter sound issues and any better reaction with the RX1 shutterleaf whisper?
Here I'm toying with LR4 from a picture taken a few weeks ago. I can only PP so many with that bright turquoise Carribean water before it begins to become boring so going for a different look.

Hi everyone. Here's a cross post from the M8/M9 thread. Images are just snapshots around the house, but might be of interest to some:
I got ahold of a loaner RX1 for a few days, along with a ZM 35/2 and plan to run a bit of a comparison between the two. I will also throw in the ZM35C and the CV35/1.2 II on the M9. Unfortunately I don't have any Leica M series 35mm lenses currently at my disposal. The plan is to shoot a variety of scenes and distances from a tripod and through most of the aperture range.
Sorry though that these are handheld, so framing is only approximately similar and focus might be slightly different as well:
After only a few images, my initial impression is RX1's Sonnar is it's slightly wider and definitely sharper wide open at very near distances where the ZM has a fair amount of SA. Distortion though is worse with the Sonnar:
The ZM feels like it has more background blur, or shallower depth of field, but double edges and sharp-edged specular highlights are quite evident. Not sure if some of this difference in degree of background blur is due to slight focus mismatches, as the ZM appears to slightly front focus on my M9. The Sonnar has calmer background rendering and a feeling of more roundness and form to out of focus objects.
As an FYI that the files have had minimum PP in LR. Primarily WB adjustment to get each set fairly close. Some might also have minor exposure and/or curves adjustments. No clarity, saturation, etc.
And if it wasn't abundantly obvious in the first set, the order is M9/ZM and RX1 for each pair.

Thanks for the comparison Ron, I was assuming the rx1 were the 2nd shots, and they were based on your comment at the bottom
Do you think the rx1 has the same 3d pop as the M9? It looks a like it has less 3d pop, but still maintains some of it
Wayne were those processed in camera or in post, I really love the contrast in 1 and 2
Phil
Thanks Phil!
The first one is SOOC jpg in BW mode and contrast at +2.
2nd is same thing but I then ran it through SEP2 to add more contrast and structure.

Thank you Wayne, zhangyue and Charles! The old copper mining town is indeed a great place for photography. It's on the World Heritage list and lots of tourists go there, so it can be very crowded in summer.
Jochen, that's beautiful. Great tones.
Ron, interesting comparison! Sometimes RX1's rendering can be a bit tame, but since I'm stuck with just one lens I'd still pick this one. A "wilder" one would probably be annoying in some situations.
Wayne, those high contrast B&Ws look great. Inspiring.

Thank you so much Helena!
Today was a warm sunny beautiful day here which is not good for landscape but was nice for street shooting up in SF. Still working on my street shooting but love the inconspicuosness of this camera vs. DSLR. And camera's combination of high DR and lens flare control make into the sunlight shots excellent.

Argh, I have so many photos and so little time to process them! Frustrating. A whole bunch from Stockholm that I haven't touched yet, and in less than a week we're off to Lofoten in northern Norway. I'll bring RX1, but also 5D with a couple of lenses.
Two from here in Trondheim (looks like spring but that's just an illusion, because it snowed all day and night yesterday):

Thanks Charles!
Those are great, especially the first two! Looks like a really nice hike. I wish I could step into the last one and go and explore what's behind that rock.
Good to see some greenery. Even though I love winter I have started to really look forward to spring. It feels far away though...
