Any chance you can share how hard it was to get the lens off and get to the sensor? I've got a dust spot on mine, but don't want to send it off to Precision... it came back from them with it. :-/

Thanks so much Sebboh and Nehemiah for posting these interesting images of the internals of the RX1!
Looks like a fun project. So cool to see the naked legendary Sonnar 35/2 lens. Hope you got it back together again ok.
With all your lens conversion experience, probably easy for you.

Derek has the photos, but the sensor wasn't that bad to get to. We also used the video as a guide at first, which was helpful. You'll have to pull some ribbon cables and some dinky stuff, so have the tools. It's really pretty simple as long as you photo each step, starting with removal of the bottom plate.

For sure Wayne! Once the lens was repaired for AF, the MF wouldn't catch. And the lens was decntered or the elements had been misaligned. It was soft from f2-f16 and every distance, as if the camera didn't have appropriate shutter speed, even at 1/1000. To replace the lens wasnt cost effective as opposed to just purchasing a new one, so I decided learn from it. Derek and I were both curious about MF'ing it. I want to see it on a GFX 50s. Derek knows modding lenses better, but it seems there's two independently moving lens groups, so probably a no go.

Nehemiah, that would have been interesting if you could mod it to to go on a GFX 50s. I would like to see my Otus 28 on a GFX 50s. Not sure if it has big enough image circle.
Based on the images you posted, when disassembled [ I want to remove dust specs ] how easy it is to put it back to the same factory default specs? I saw a RX1 service manual it is recomended to replace the seals or washers.

Had to turn around to shoot this scene this morning. The light was a bit stronger when I first saw it, but held up long enough. Probably went overboard editing, I'll need to spend some more time on it later, but have a crazy week ahead.

From my limited understanding, the longer lenses do better.
I'd like to try my Mino 85 limited, CY 35, and RX1 sonnar especially.

Yeah, just read Steve's GFX thread. I will wait for Sony to make a MF RX1 with the same sensor in the GFX and a new 35mm equiv. Sonnar lens for it.

it's pretty easy to take apart and put back together, the link nehemiah posted shows the process (in reverse). i would worry that doing so is probably just as likely to get more dust onto the sensor though. i can't really comment on possible effects on sensor/lens alignment either. the rx1 we took apart had lens alignment issues that damaged iq pretty badly before we took it apart. i haven't put the lens back together yet. i want to test aperture and AF motors first, but i have been quite busy with a new baby.

Bits and pieces from a late night angling hike. The summer has been cold, the river ran big and cold and the salmon got away. Images taken around midnight.
