OK. That worked, more or less – so here goes nothing!
Hello! I don’t know if this is the right place for my first post here or if I’m violating some unwritten rules by doing this, but I thought I’d briefly introduce myself. I learned photography in the US Army in the late 1960’s and have been playing around with it at one level or another ever since. As is obvious from my screen name, my life-long passion is pointing dogs and upland bird hunting. Much of my photography reflects this, but also includes efforts to create images of some of the beautiful natural places my dogs and I are privileged to explore each day.
I’ve used various equipment. Learned on Leica and Rolliflex. In more recent years, I’ve used a sophisticated (but big and heavy) Canon DSRL system and Leica P&S cameras. Currently, I have a Fuji X-mount system with those wonderful analog controls that made photography fun for me again. I like the Fuji and it works well for me in the field. I can’t manage a full-sized DSLR in the field unless all I am doing is photography, which is rare – thus, the relatively small, light Fuji equipment. A logical extension of this concept for me was acquiring a camera with a full-frame high-resolution sensor for world-class IQ, but it had to be a compact camera, not another DSLR that would mostly stay home when I was afield. Ergo, I purchased a brand new RX1R II.
The Rx1r II is my first Sony product, so the learning curve has been steep and I’ve still got a long way to go. I’ve participated in the DPReview forums for some years, but the emphasis there is more on equipment. Since this board seems to be more focused on the images and less on the equipment itself, I thought I’d give it a try in hopes of getting some feedback on my early efforts to learn the RX1R II. It does indeed have awesome IQ, but seems to require capable hands because it is unforgiving of less than perfect technique.
Without further ado, here are a few of my early attempts with the Sony for C&C.
Mid-winter forest floor on the mountain where I live:

My 13 year old buddy, Chase, retrieving a bird yesterday:

Wintry barnyard on the farm:

My one year old puppy, and 24/7 companion, Joy, pointing a cock pheasant. This is a very unusual image because you can actually see the bird in the lower right of the image if you look closely. Normally, we never see a bird until it is flushed.

Down the farm on a rainy day – lots of 18th century buildings here in Pennsylvania Dutch country:

Joy’s BFF, Ti, a young setter honoring one of Joy’s points:

Junk truck in the rain up in my woods:

Yesterday’s tasty harvest:

Thank you in advance for any C&C you are willing to offer.
Regards,
Greg, Chase and Joy
