Usually would do half a battery on a casual day's shoot (3 to 4 hours, light shooting when i brought the camera out). However, I always had 3 batteries when I travelled, though most day's I'd use 2 max. I find the Finder/LCD button on the evf very handy. You can switch to lcd or evf just by pressing a button. The EVF turns off when not to my eye, and i switch to lcd to better navigate the menus or review photos.

Just curious, how many of you have the EVF? and do you use it often? I'm still debating whether or not to pull trigger. I can get one just under $300

I almost always use the EVF, tilted up so I can hold the camera close to my body, looking down. I seem to concentrate better this way, makes my compositions better. I also think it makes me relatively inconspicuous. And it allows me to use my good left eye and not get nose prints on the LCD
This being an image thread, here is a recent two-image merge of a view from a little prominence in Charlotte, Vermont called Mount Philo, of the Lake Champlain Valley and New York's Adirondack Mountains

The latest in my effort to photograph the outdoor art in the waterfront area of Port Angeles, Washington. All are WO except #3 (f/4.5).
